Choi Mo, 31, a former taxi driver, who was arrested on charges of deliberately hitting an ambulance and blocking the street, saying, ‘Start handling the accident,’ attended the first trial and admitted most of the charges. At the first trial held at Seoul Eastern District Law Judge Lee Yoo-young’s hearing on the 4th, Choi’s lawyer said, “Except for violations of the Special Law on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud, we admit the accusation. ”
Choi was accused of blocking the road for 10 minutes, saying, “Deal with the accident first. If (the patient) dies, I will take responsibility,” after deliberately being in contact with a private ambulance on a road near the station. Godeok in Gangdong-gu, Seoul. The patient’s family alleges that a 79-year-old patient with stage 4 lung cancer, who was in an ambulance, died because he missed the opportunity to be hospitalized in a negative pressure isolation room due to the disturbance of Mr. Choi. The case was disclosed in the Blue House petition last July when the son of a deceased patient posted a post asking for punishment for a taxi driver, and Choi was arrested on the 24th of that month.
Before this accident, it was also revealed that Choi deliberately hit a private ambulance and threatened it, or drove a bus, taxi, truck, etc., and collected more than 20 million won in settlement money and treatment expenses. The prosecution applied six charges to Choi, including special assault, damage to special property, obstruction of business, fraud, violation of the Special Law on Prevention of Insurance Fraud and attempted blackmail, and handed him over to trial on 14 last month. Choi’s side denies the alleged violation of the Special Insurance Fraud Prevention Act.
At the trial, Choi said: “In general, we have reached an agreement with the insurance company” and “We are in the process of reaching an agreement with the ambulance driver.” However, the subject of the settlement did not include the survivors of the patient who died during the ambulance transfer. It is because he was not listed as a victim in this trial.
Apart from the trial of the 24th of last month, the grieving party filed a claim for damages for the mental suffering suffered by the family, alleging that the patient lost the golden time of treatment and died due to the intentional interception of the transport of Choi. Police are also investigating the case in which the patient’s survivors sued Choi on nine counts, including murder and death by special assault.
Choi’s next trial will be held on the 23rd of this month.
