LG Electronics introduced a premium line of LCD TVs that increased the number of light sources by more than 10 times to increase brightness and contrast ratio and applied its own rich color reproduction technology to enhance color reproduction capabilities. The newly introduced ‘QNED Mini LED TV’ is the top model of the existing line of LCD televisions, Nano Cell TV. LG Electronics plans to actively target the premium TV market with a lineup ranging from OLED TVs, which are the best models, to QNED TVs and nano-cell TVs. On the 29th, LG Electronics held an online technology briefing with HE Research Center Director Nam Ho-jun, HE Marketing Communication Manager Lee Jeong-seok and Product Planning Manager of TV, Paik Sun-pil, and launched QNED TV, a new premium LCD TV.

QNED TV applied the new ‘Quantum Nano Cell Color Technology’ which uses technologies based on quantum dots and nanocells at the same time. Light from the backlight passes through nanocells and quantum dot materials to express pure color closer to the real world. An LG Electronics official said: “By utilizing all the representative high color reproduction technologies used in the industry, we have raised the color expressive power of LCD televisions to the highest level.” “Quantum nanocell color technology exquisitely adjusts the wavelength of light to express all color,” he explained.

In addition, the new product applied a “mini LED” to the backlight unit (SSB), which has a light source size less than one-tenth that of an existing LCD TV. Thanks to its small size, around 30,000 light sources can be used, which is more than 10 times larger than that of conventional LCD televisions that use up to 2000 light sources based on 86-inch 8K resolution (7680 × 4320 ). It is explained that more light sources can be placed in the same area, resulting in a brighter screen. It is also explained that it has increased the power of color expression by more than 10 times.

LG Electronics expects the new product to significantly improve the shortcomings of LCD televisions that use backlighting and liquid crystal displays, and expand customers’ choices in the premium TV market. LG Electronics plans to present the main LED mini TV products at ‘CES 2021’ which will take place in January next year. It is planning to sell 10 models, including 8K and 4K resolutions, mainly for ultra-large products in the global market.
