Singer Hong Jin-young was controversial for the plagiarism of his master’s and doctoral theses. Hong Jin-young declared “return the newspaper” while complaining of resentment. However, the question arises as to whether this type of action is correct.
On the 6th, Hong Jin-young voiced her position on the thesis plagiarism controversy, saying, “I’m sorry to say hello for unpleasant things.” He said: “I have lived a lot for the last 10 years, sweating and crying, but it also bothers me when that rumor occurs to me. I apologize for the concern. I sincerely apologize.”
Jinyoung Hong explained the process for obtaining a master’s degree at that time. He said, “I got the thesis for my master’s degree in graduate school in 2009. I did my best to do the thesis by discussing the time with my advisor.” He said, “However, things that were considered custom at the time are now judged only by a small percentage, so whatever you say, it can only be seen as an excuse, so I’m frustrated and upset.”
Hong Jin-young said, “I think this is also part of my responsibility. Now I think it was clothes that didn’t fit me. I think I was too greedy.” He also added: “I’m sorry. I’m incredibly sad to get caught up in this controversy for whatever reason. And looking back, I ponder if there was something else I was greedy for. I’m so sorry. I wasn’t enough.”
Hong Jin-young said, “I will return my master’s and doctoral thesis. That seems to be the best way to do it.” He added: “This is all my unfamiliarity and my fault. I am deeply sorry again that I have caused so many people concern.”

On the 5th, Hong Jin-young became suspicious of plagiarism when a media outlet reported this. According to reports, the ‘Study on Cultural Content Industry Trends via Hallyu’, presented by Jinyoung Hong’s master’s thesis at Chosun University in April 2009, was analyzed with a plagiarism rate of 74% as a result of the ‘Copy Killer’ test.
When suspicion was first raised, Jin-young Hong refuted that he had not plagiarized the thesis and gave the opinion of the professor who was in charge of reviewing the thesis at the time. Hong Jin-young said: “According to the professor, when Hong Jin-young was reviewed for his master’s thesis, it was in 2009, and at that time, it was a trend to add a lot of comments such as the content of citations and references, and it was a time when many appointments were required to pass the thesis review. ” “I explained.” The copy removal system has been mandatory in universities since 2015 and began filtering out more than 50 percent of plagiarism. The plagiarism rate is inevitably high when examining papers reviewed in 2009, when no such system existed. ”

However, the confession of a professor from the Department of Commerce of Chosun University who taught Jinyoung Hong also continued. He said that on the morning of the 6th, all the theses written by Jinyoung Hong were false. He argued, “I have rarely seen Hong Jin-young at school. Since Hong’s father is a teacher at the same school, I cannot deny that the breathing worked.” Hong Jin-young’s father was a professor emeritus in the Department of Economics at Chosun University, where he served as a member of the permanent audit committee of Gwangju Bank, permanent chairman of the New Light Policy Forum, and chairman of the Council of Members of the Saenuri Party of the Naju-Hwasun Party.
Considering that the plagiarism rate of the master’s thesis is usually 15 ~ 25%, it is true that the plagiarism rate of Hong Jin-young’s master’s thesis reaches 74% according to the copy killer. It is difficult to understand the fact that around three-quarters of the articles are being “copied” even considering it as the “2009 custom” that Hong Jin-young claims. The 74% figure is too large to claim “just a small percentage.” It is natural to refer to past articles and data in various ways and dissolve them in research, but it is also the job of a researcher to unravel research in his own way and phrase.
While Hong Jin-young denied the plagiarism accusations, he stated that the thesis would be returned, raising the suspicion of plagiarism himself. As Hong Jin-young gave the audience a pleasant energy not only with a song, but also with an overflowing talent and a positive and bright appearance, dealing with this suspicion is inevitable. It seems necessary to clarify what is right and what is wrong, the truth and the lie.
