Tottenham Hotspur aces Son Heung-min (28) and Harry Kane (27) re-created a new page in the history of the English Professional Football Premier League (EPL) with a ‘perfect match’.
Son Heung-min started in the second round of the 2020-2021 Premier League against Southampton played on the 20th (Korean time), scoring 4 goals and leading Tottenham’s backup victory 5-2.
With this, Son Heung-min achieved his first hat-trick in the EPL game five years after joining Tottenham in August 2015, and set a new record for most goals in a regular league game.
Furthermore, the Asians also scored the most points in an EPL game.
The Asian player who scored a hat-trick in the EPL is also Son Heung-min, after Japan’s Shinji Kagawa (31, Real Zaragoza) scored three goals against Norwich City on March 2, 2013 when he was with Manchester United.
With Son Heung-min scoring four goals, Kane also rewrote the history of the league. Kane helped all four of Son Heung-min’s goals that day and scored a goal himself.
According to the British public broadcaster BBC, Kane was the first player to help all four goals scored by a player in a single EPL match.
In other words, Son Heung-min became the first player to score 4 goals in a single EPL match with 4 assists from the same player.
It’s been 17 years since Arsenal’s Thierry Henry assisted Frederick Ljungberg’s three goals against Sunderland in May 2003, contributing to all of a player’s hat-tricks in the EPL game.
Kane was also named the sixth player and the first English-born player to score four assists in an EPL game.
The BBC said: “Kane had two assists in the league last season. But in the second half of the day, almost all the passes were made by Son Heung-min.”
Then he predicted: “If Garus Bale (who was on loan from Real Madrid) joins, Tottenham will have the best striker in the world.”
