Korean comrades, dear party members, journalists who attended, I am glad to see you, I am Sang-jung Shim, the chairman of the Justice Party.
I will soon finish my 14-month party rep. As soon as three days later, if the party’s presidential election reaches the final, my term will be until October 7. I am grateful to all the party members who believed in and supported me, and to the people who gave me generous support. Thanks to the reporters who always lovingly reported to the Justice Party.
I became the leader of the party with the promise of breaking the acquired two-party system. I promised to create a national assembly that resembles the people, realizes a diversity policy, and responds to the aspirations of the candlelight people with drastic reforms. In addition, opportunities for public office are given to competent and dedicated politicians and young politicians trained in progressive politics for a long time. I sincerely hoped to become a Justice Party that could provide a wide range of services.
However, the revised electoral law, which was achieved with all their effort, has not been enforced. The process in which institutional achievements were violated by vested interests and vested interests after all reform and cooperation efforts will continue to be a painful stain on the history of our democracy. Do it. Let me reflect on what was missing and what was needed most.
Despite the general election results, I think the significance of the 9.67% approval rating sent by the people is unique. The support of the people’s affections should not be overshadowed by the failure of the general elections or the small number of seats. In times of disaster, the valley of polarization is deeply gouging and most people’s lives deteriorate. The strengthened two-party system is moving further and further away from people’s lives. In times of disaster, the desire grows for a better political party that can guarantee the safety and dignity of the lives of citizens. The need for political reform became more urgent.
So me and the Justice Party will not stop. The Justice Party is a political party born to change politics. Political reform is a destiny for me. It is a mission to set the springboard for public welfare reform. When a victory is achieved, everything feels like a miracle. But looking back, there is no miracle anywhere. It was only after every great defeat and deep in the swamps that victory came slowly. This is a lesson that 20 years of progressive politics gave me.
We will re-fasten our shoelaces, go back to the beginning and follow the path of political reform. We will overcome the old two-party system and establish politics in the midst of the lives of troubled citizens living in times of disaster. Justice Party is a party that is at the forefront of the spirit of the age. We have always marked a step forward in the direction of change in Korean society.
During my tenure, I dedicated myself to two things. It has been preparing a vision as a leading political party to overcome the climate crisis by creating a youth policy as the theme of future politics. It will be a great asset for the development of the game in the future.
First, we present a list of youth strategies that no party has done. As a result, a third of the proportional representatives are young. The Juvenile Justice Party, which is run by members of the youth party, will be launched soon. Those who will move the future have opened the door to challenge the political power of today.
Second, we have established the Green New Deal Committee for the first time among domestic political parties, and we are building our vision and will as a leading party in overcoming the climate crisis. Breaking inequality and overcoming the climate crisis are the coordinates of the Justice Party for the transformation of the times. Among them, we are reflecting on progressive policies that have not been able to actively tackle the climate crisis. In the future, Sang-Jung Shim wants to be reborn as a leading climate justice politician. To be honest, there have been many times when I feel like I’m alone on top of a tall mountain. The weight of responsibility was not light. Now, I want to share that burden with my younger colleagues.
The reason I decided to leave office early is not just because of my responsibility for the results of the general election. This is to introduce Justice Party Season 2 faster. The new leadership created through this election will be the second generation of progressive politics, no matter who they are. It will be innovation leadership that opens Justice Party season 2. As a sturdy bridge connecting the first and third generations of progressive politics, I hope you will play an excellent role in bringing about the Team Justice Party, which differs from the two great parties. I would appreciate it if people would give me generous support as well.
I always dream of the victory of the Justice Party. The Justice Party is preparing for a great change, and it is a party that always dreams of change in Korean society. I firmly believe that the victory of the Justice Party is the victory of Korean politics and the hope of all workers, including workers, peasants, women, youth, LGBTQ people and the self-employed.
My fellow citizens, dear party members and supporters, I now assume my responsibility as a representative of the Justice Party, but I will do my best as a proud member of the Justice Party and as a member of the National Assembly.
