Admission Preparation Fee Paid Starting Next Year
Starting next year, all freshmen entering middle and high schools in the Seoul area will receive an ‘Admission Preparation Grant’ (Admission Preparation) of 300,000 won. This is an expense that can be used to buy school uniforms or tablets, and can be received by any student entering a school in Seoul, regardless of the income level of the parents or the type of school.
Seoul Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon held a press conference on the 29th and said, “To ease the economic burden on families and strengthen publicity for education in difficult times due to the expansion of Corona 19, we will implement the admission reservation system together with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and 25 autonomous districts “. The admission preparation fee is 300,000 won per freshman in middle and high school. It was formulated taking into account the maximum limit for joint purchase of uniforms from the Ministry of Education last year (30.1163 won).
Applicants are based in schools located in Seoul. Students going to Seoul from other cities and provinces can also receive support. However, in Gyeonggi and Gangwon, free support for the school uniform already exists, so duplicate support is unlikely to be provided. Although it has an address in Seoul, it will be decided through detailed discussions on whether to apply for students who have advanced to other regions.
Youth who do not attend school are not eligible for preparation for admission. Superintendent Cho said, “Because the starting point of the admission preparation fund is free education, youth outside of school are not eligible for support,” he said. “Instead, they are provided with an educational participation allowance (100,000 to 200,000 won per month).
Funds for admission preparation are provided by providing a mobile gift certificate to Seoul City Zero Pay (Seoul City’s mobile simple payment system) when new junior high and high school freshmen receive school assignments at February of next year and send application materials. Items that can be purchased for admission preparation are clothing, including school uniforms, and smart devices for remote classes. Seongdong-gu Mayor Won-oh Jung said, “We are in the process of negotiating the purchase of books, reference books and stationery as an admission reserve.”
The number of students enrolled in Seoul’s middle and high schools next year is approximately 1,367,700, with a total of 41 billion won in preparation for admission next year. The government bureau of education, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and each autonomous district decided to share resources in a ratio of 5 to 3 to 2, respectively.
Superintendent Cho said: “Up until now, four autonomous districts, including Jung-gu’s office, have already been supporting the costs of school uniforms, but parents in other neighborhood districts have asked, ‘Why don’t we give them away? ‘ I got off. “
