The ruling and opposition parties, which had been facing a “ strong to strong ” showdown over the review of the law by the Office of Senior Official Crimes Investigation (KAI), came to a halt shortly before the conflict. Kim Tae-nyeon, along with the Democratic Party, and Joo Ho-young, the National Powers, met in the National Assembly on the 23rd as president of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Park Byung-seok, and agreed to reconvene the Recommendation Committee of the Candidate for Dean of Karate.
The recommendations committee stopped its activities on the 18th without being able to select two candidates who received the consent of more than six of the seven members despite three votes. In a situation where it was practically impossible to meet again at the recommendation committee level, a request from the president of the National Assembly was required to resume activities.
President Park met with reporters after a closed-door meeting that lasted approximately one hour and 10 minutes starting at 3:30 p.m. the same day, and said: “The recommendations committee calls for the reconvening of the meeting as soon as possible to reconsider the recommendation of candidates for Minister of Public Affairs. ” Said. President Park added: “There were no objections from the opposition parties to my proposal,” adding: “I will follow the procedures immediately for specific issues related to the convening of the meeting.” As a result, an extreme confrontation between the Democratic Party, which pressed to amend the Air Transport Law to neutralize the veto right of the opposition party, and the power of the people who suggested a boycott of the National Assembly, saying that it would block everything. , became a momentary pause.
However, the expression of the ruling party leader leaving the meeting was still heavy. For now, President Park has agreed to the arbitration proposal, but neither party has doubled the current position. House Representative Kim Tae-nyeon said, “In any case, we will make sure that there is no case where the airlift cannot be launched due to the intentional delay of the opposition party.” On the other hand, Ho-young Joo said, “It is necessary to continue with the recommendation committee until there is a candidate who can easily agree with the opposition party according to the purpose of the Air Transport Law.”
The referral committee is expected to resume within 25 days at the latest. This is because that same day, the Democratic Party announced the review and processing of the amendments to the Air Transport Law, and a so-called legal review by the Judicial Legislative Committee of the National Assembly is scheduled. Lawyer Park Gyeong-joon, a member of the ruling party’s recommendation, said: “We are adjusting (the date of the meeting) to 25”, right after the meeting of the internal representatives of both parties.
Regarding the meeting method, as on the 18th, a vote with 10 existing candidates is strong. This is because the Democratic Party drew a line that “can’t be received at all” (Democratic Party Judiciary Committee Secretary Baek Hye-ryeon) against the people’s force claim that the candidate must be revised from the beginning. Secretary Baek replied: “Yes” to the journalists’ questions: “If the recommendation committee elects a candidate for the post of chief of the airlift, will the revision of the law stop?”
The problem is when the referral committee fails again. The Democratic Party advocates revising the Air Transport Law on its own until the 9th of next month, the end of the regular National Assembly. If the Democratic Party alone tries to revise the law, President Park Byung-seok, who proposed an arbitration proposal, will also be embarrassed. The ruling party has already handled laws related to real estate, such as the composition of the first half of the 21st National Assembly and the ‘3 Leasing Law’. If a bill on issues like the Airborne Law is dealt with unilaterally again, President Park’s words, which have emphasized negotiations and agreements, tend to be overshadowed.
However, it is also onerous for President Park to once again encourage the opposition parties to agree and take on the role of mediator. There is also the possibility of accusing him of “the main culprit of delaying the launch of the airlift” from his own passport. In his remarks before the meeting, President Park said, “This is not about selecting an outright candidate anyway, but about selecting a candidate with relatively competence and relatively few flaws. I hope you will also discuss this with an open mind.” I ask.
