Lotte Mart’s “I am understanding what is happening … I will reveal my position soon”
The controversy is emerging after witnessing that he has been denied access to a guide dog at a large supermarket in Seoul.
On the 30th, an article entitled “ The situation of rejection of guide dogs in large markets ” was published in the online community, which registered tens of thousands of visits. In this article, along with an article posted on Instagram by a netizen, a guide dog for a disabled person sitting on the ground was included.
According to an article published by this netizen, a ‘puppy worker’ who visited a large shopping center located in Jamsil that day received a complaint from an employee saying: ‘Why did he bring a guide dog to enter even though he was not disabled?’ Puppy walking refers to the process of entrusting a preliminary guide dog to a general family home starting at 7 weeks of age for socialization education for one year. The volunteers who care for and train prospective guide dogs are called “puppy walkers.” The dog in the released photo wore a Samsung logo and an orange vest with the message “Guide dog studying.”
This netizen wrote: “The aunt who brought a guide dog cries, and no matter how much misunderstanding and frustration it may be, even if it is,” he wrote. “Wouldn’t even a guide dog in education be able to move around without problems after entering this place (big market)?
As this article spread, netizens commented on the criticism and said: “The behavior of the big market was inappropriate.” Comments were posted on the hypermarket side’s official Instagram account, saying, “It’s a guide dog to help people with disabilities, but the denial of entry is unfair” and “Employee training doesn’t seem to be done properly.” .
In accordance with article 40 of the Welfare Law for Persons with Disabilities, when a person with a disability, accompanied by an assistance dog with an assistance dog brand, uses public transport or tries to enter public places, facilities of lodging, food service establishments, and other places where many people attend or gather should not be refused without good reason. It can not be done. If rejected without good reason, a fine of no more than 3 million won will be imposed. In addition, guide dogs are prohibited by law from wearing their mouths. This is because if the owner is deemed to be going to a dangerous place, the guide dog must ask for his pants and request to go elsewhere.
In response to this controversy, the hypermarket side said: “We are grasping the situation” and “will reveal our position soon.”
