Fourth graders from the main department of medical schools across the country volunteer for medical care. This is to help overcome the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19). It is expected to be around 300, but it can be increased or decreased. Medical students will assist with corona 19 diagnostic tests at temporary screening centers throughout the metropolitan area.

300 volunteers volunteered to collect samples in the temporary screening lab

In the course of medical strikes in August and September, fourth-year medical students rejected the practical exam during the national doctor accident. They opposed the government expansion of medical school gardens and the establishment of public medical schools.

Lee Ji-hoon (29), a senior at Chosun University Medical School, will also be a volunteer. He is the spokesperson for this group of volunteers. He said in a phone call with JoongAng Ilbo on the 16th: “Finding COVID-19 patients hidden in the temporary screening test and eliminating additional infections is the top priority.

How did you come to be a volunteer?
“I learned early last week that a temporary screening inspection center will be operating in the metropolitan area, where the spread of Corona 19 is severe. Senior physicians are already struggling in the front-line medical field, making it difficult to go to the temporary screening lab. There was a story among medical students that “we must step forward.” After that, they went to each medical department and recruited candidates. After that, I contacted the Central Accident Control Center of the Ministry of Health and Welfare ”.

What are you going to do?
“First, we will help with diagnostic tests such as sample collection at the temporary screening laboratory in the metropolitan area. Currently, we are discussing the schedule of activities and the size of the workforce with the heavy water headquarters. The temporary inspection and review office is said to be operational until January 3 of next year. The doctor’s office written exam will take place on January 7. Since 4th graders can’t stop preparing for the test, they will take it into account and serve. After the written test is finished, you can also participate in other services. ”

In the last week, the number of new coronavirus infections (Corona 19) was confirmed at an average of 832.6 per day. It is serious enough to meet the three-step criteria (average 800-1000 patients per day). The government is running temporary screening clinics in 73 major locations in the metropolitan area to search for hidden mild and asymptomatic patients.

On the first day of the 14th, 4873 people came and were examined. Of these, 19 were confirmed. The positive rate is 0.4%. It is higher than the positive rate for enlisted soldiers (0.2%). The number of inspectors is gradually slowing down. The role of detection laboratories is becoming increasingly important.

There may also be a “cold look”.
“I know that public opinion is not good after rejecting the national poem. (Volunteer group) There was also concern that “there will be accusations of calculated actions” during the promotion stage. However, with really pure intentions, they all volunteered for voluntary activities (to help overcome the crown crisis). ”

Have you performed any medical services before?
“Last August, I went to volunteer in Yeosu, a medically vulnerable place. A group of volunteers with 6 doctors and 10 medical students was formed. It helped write basic questionnaires, classify patients, and even simple treatments. I remember that the old people liked it a lot ”.

Lee received a call on the evening of the 16th. He said it was likely to be implemented in the near future. When asked “Aren’t you anxious?” He said, “I do it voluntarily.”
