In New York State, protests are intensifying against the case of “ masked asphyxia ” of a black man, Daniel Freud, who died during a police arrest.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that protests continued on the third day of the previous night in Rochester, western New York, where the incident of Frude’s death occurred at 5 local time. The protests began peacefully the day some 2,000 people gathered, but tensions escalated during the clash with the police.
Some protesters threw firecrackers at the police and three policemen were taken to hospital. The police fired tear gas at protesters who did not comply with the dissolution order and arrested 11 people accused of riots and illegal demonstrations.
Some protesters broke into a restaurant near the place where the death occurred, letting guests out for dinner and shutting down the business, the local tabloid New York Post reported. During the protests, a car was also seen running towards the protesters.
Hundreds of racist protesters marched through the streets of Manhattan, New York. Some protesters smashed the windows of stores like Starbucks, banks and pharmacies during the protests and the looting attempt, and the police arrested eight people. During the arrest process, some protesters resisted furiously, throwing smoke bombs at the police.
The protests came in the wake of the belated announcement of the death of a 41-year-old black man Daniel Freud, in the process of being detained by police in Rochester, New York in March. On this day, the Frude family held a press conference and urged an investigation of the truth, saying that Frude was killed due to forced repression by the police.
According to a video released by the Frude family, Frude was arrested on March 23 by a police officer who was dispatched after receiving a report from the family in Rochester, New York. The police put Freud face down on the ground, handcuffed him and put a hood on him. Then he pressed his hand to his face, and in the process Freud lost consciousness. Freud was taken directly to the hospital for treatment, but died a week later.
The police alleged that Freud continued to spit and was concerned about the corona infection19. She said it took her about two minutes to press her face. The New York State Attorney’s Office launched its own investigation in April and announced that it had suspended seven police officers. However, five months after the incident, the late punishment from the authorities arrived and the controversy grew.
