According to Reuters, Moderna has already moved the vaccine from its manufacturing plant to a warehouse operated by drug distributor McCain. Vaccine delivery in the United States is handled by express delivery specialists like FedEx and UPS, like Pfizer. Express couriers plan to prioritize vaccines over other cargoes.
Transportation is easier than the Pfizer vaccine. The Pfizer vaccine should be stored and transported at -70 degrees Celsius, but the modder or vaccines can be stored at -20 degrees Celsius, which is normal refrigerator temperature. Unlike Pfizer vaccines, which can only be delivered to hospitals and pharmacies equipped with freezing facilities below -70 degrees Celsius, modders or vaccines are not subject to such restrictions.
The Pfizer vaccine comes packaged with 975 doses in a box, but the Modena vaccine comes packaged with 100 doses each. Also, unlike Pfizer vaccines that have been redistributed after being shipped to a large fulfillment center, modders or vaccines can be shipped directly to the vaccination site.
