[라이센스뉴스 최기창 기자] Get in a car and get off in front of the building. Leave the car in front of the front door and enter the building. After waiting for the elevator, use the mobile app to find a nearby parking lot and then tap the parking space on the screen. The car travels to the location on its own. The car that has traveled about 800 meters obeying the crosswalk and the intersection signal goes through the parking access road blocker and enters the designated seat immediately. In the mobile application, a message appears indicating that the parking lot is complete.

The technology of the future, ‘my own AI controller’, which only existed in the imagination, becomes a reality. It is an artificial intelligence unmanned vehicle technology called “ call to come, send to go. ”

On the 17th, LG Uplus and Hanyang University’s Automotive Electronics Control Laboratory ‘ACELAB (Professor Seon Woo Myung-ho)’ and autonomous driving solutions company ‘CONTROLWORKS’ unveiled the first autonomous parking technology based on the world’s 5G mobile communications.

5G autonomous parking is a kind of ‘autonomous valet parking’ concept in which the cars themselves visit nearby parking lots and park in empty spots. An LG Uplus official presented: “It is the first time in the global market that it shows 5G autonomous driving and parking technology in connection with uncontrolled roads and public parking lots.”

Professor Seon Woo Myeong-ho, a world-renowned authority on autonomous driving technology, said: “After driving, parking always follows. In that sense, 5G autonomous parking is the next step for autonomous driving that was introduced last year. In the movie, a Batman car is implemented that moves and parks on its own. All the annoyances that arise will disappear “.

Advanced autonomous driving and communication technology, challenge zero error

In this demo, it is explained that the autonomous car 5G’A1 (A1) ‘, which was introduced last year, seemed more advanced. It includes not only 5G autonomous driving technology, but also a real-time parking space recognition solution, a 5G cloud control service platform, and a mobile app link. Video devices, 5G communication equipment and computing devices were built in A1’s trunk.

The public demonstration was held at the Sangam 5G Autonomous Driving Demonstration District in Seoul. A1 was moved about 800m from the ‘YTN New Square’ building to the Sangam 1 public parking lot for 5 minutes and then settled in an empty parking space.

Even at crosswalks and intersections, I kept driving without difficulty. According to Hanyang University, autonomous vehicles communicate with traffic lights and determine whether to drive or brake themselves. This is a more advanced method than last year’s demonstration, which simply determined whether to drive by determining the color of the traffic light. They are out of variables such as weather, light conditions, and vision obstruction. However, an LG Uplus official cautioned: “Indeed, in order to drive properly, traffic lights and systems must also be delivered.”

During driving, artificial intelligence (AI) -based driving environment recognition technology played a key role. Predicted the future situation after recognizing the surrounding situation with information about the Lidar and radar sensor installed in the vehicle. Through this, it responded to lane changes and sudden interruptions in front, rear and side vehicles.

Autonomous vehicle control technology was used near metro stations where unexpected situations often occur. Through longitudinal control at the front and rear, and lateral control on the left and right, the train passed smoothly close to the Digital Media City station while maintaining a certain distance from the surrounding vehicles.

However, the deceleration and acceleration weren’t smooth, so there was a problem with driving comfort. However, it is explained that this is already technically resolved. An official from Hanyang University said, “For safety, I put on the brake so that it comes on quickly and the accelerator slowly.”

Even tight parking lots are easy, parking is ‘one time only’

The public parking lot Sangam 1, which was the destination, has a fairly narrow entrance for automatic license plate recognition. On the other hand, the A1 was the Hyundai GV80, a large SUV. However, the autonomous vehicle naturally passed the jammer. Since then, the vehicle has finished parking with only one reverse gear.

An LG Uplus official said: “The space recognition system and the 5G cloud control platform played an important role in real-time parking. The real-time parking space recognition system reads the status of vacant seats through CCTV installed in the parking lot based on deep learning. I made it possible to find out. “

LG Uplus assessed that this 5G autonomous parking has reached the completion stage of a number of future mobility technologies leading to the unmanned parking of pickup, drive and drive vehicles. It is the so-called fourth generation autonomous driving.

Professor Seon Woo Myung-ho from Hanyang University Automotive Electronic Control Laboratory said: “The 5G autonomous driving and parking service based on the core technology of the fourth industrial revolution will greatly contribute to improving the competitiveness of the national automotive technology in the global market “. We look forward to playing an important role as a low-traffic service. “

An LG Uplus official said: “The 5G A1 autonomous car has gone through 137 private 5G autonomous parking demonstrations.” Furthermore, he added, “We plan to start public demonstrations for ordinary citizens starting next month.”

The key to autonomous cars is an accurate guide … The disadvantages of the cloud method still exist

I still have homework. First of all, an accurate guide is required for stable driving. A high-level map that includes various information such as whether the road has been opened and the status of nearby facilities is essential. Also, currently, the parking facilities must be mapped in advance. In the end, the business of building maps for autonomous driving, like the saturated navigation market, is expected to emerge as food for the future.

An official who demonstrated autonomous driving also said: “The technology that autonomous robots move and map by themselves is incompatible with autonomous vehicles, where safety is paramount,” and “When autonomous driving becomes more active, it is It is important to produce accurate maps. It will come to mind. ” Furthermore, “We are currently working with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to create more accurate maps. If many vehicles can drive autonomously, the maps can be built a bit faster. “

Also, problems may arise due to characteristics of the cloud control method, such as security or reaction speed. There is also the disadvantage that the volume of various devices installed in the trunk remains large. One official said: “Because it is in the investigation stage, we have not applied it separately in relation to safety. We will continue to explore ways to increase safety in the future. “

Another official said: “The problem of using technology at the edge to improve response speed cannot be implemented at this time. However, I am paying attention to many parts so that there is no problem (reaction speed) ”.

An LG Uplus official said: “The advantage of a telecommunications company is that it knows the lifestyle of the customer, so it can be investigated while considering the direction of weaving all the environments and solving the puzzle of life.” “Using technologies developed under the theme of innovation in mobility We will continue to focus on technological research that will make life comfortable for our customers, such as the introduction of autonomous driving technology.”
