The prosecution has launched a search for the seizure of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, the headquarters of KHNP and Korea Gas Corporation in connection with the suspected manipulation of the economic viability of Unit 1 of the Wolseong Nuclear Power Headquarters of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd.

Daejeon Branch Criminal Division 5 (Chief Prosecutor Sang-Hyeon Lee) dispatched about 30 prosecutors and investigators to Hansuwon, Yangbuk-myeon, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do headquarters for seizure and search at the office planning.

The search for seizures is known to be done as a verification process of personal computers and various documents that are protected.

At around 4 p.m., 3-4 members of the prosecution staff moved to another location by van, and about 2 hours later, around 6 p.m., a member of Han Suwon’s employee was seen entering the building of headquarters.

A KHNP official said: “We cannot confirm what kind of data prosecution staff are verifying. There was no agitation from KHNP employees regarding the seizure and search.”

The seizure and search of the day were allegations of manipulation of the economic viability of the Ministry of Industry and KHNP at the time of the early closure of Wolseong Unit 1 in 2018, and accusations of interfering with the audit of the Ministry of Industry employees before the Audit Office audit last year. In the case of Gas Corporation, the reason is that Chae Hee-bong, the current president, was serving as the Blue House Industrial Policy Officer at the time of discussions about the closure of Wolseong Unit 1.
