Jupiter and Saturn met in 800 years, 9 photos of the mysterious moment

On the night of the 21st there was a space show in which Jupiter and Saturn overlapped as a single star. It has been 800 years since 1226 that this mysterious phenomenon has been observed on the ground.

This phenomenon, called the ‘grand conjunction’, began around 5:17 after sunset on the 21st and was observed in the western sky for about two hours. In fact, Jupiter and Saturn, more than 700 million kilometers apart, met at an angle of 0.1 degrees when viewed from Earth. It almost seemed to be attached to the naked eye without a celestial device.

This arrangement of two celestial bodies is rare enough to appear once every 20 years. Patring Hatigan, professor of astrophysics at Rice University, said: “This ‘combination’ is extremely rare this year, given how close the two celestial bodies are.”

According to NASA, the two planets can be seen so close together in 2080, 60 years from now. Let’s enjoy the enchanting and mysterious scenery from now on.
