Starting this year, since kindergartens are included in the School Meals Act, the Seoul Metropolitan Bureau of Education decided to strengthen food hygiene management, such as providing hygiene education to service workers. kindergarten food on the premises.

On the 16th, the Seoul Metropolitan Bureau of Education announced the ‘Comprehensive Safe Meals Plan for Kindergarten (2021 ~ 2025)’, which included follow-up measures to amend the School Meals Law Enforcement Decree.

Due to the revision of the executing decree, all public and private kindergartens with more than 100 children were included in the School Meals Law since 30 last month. For kindergartens with 100 or more children equipped with facilities and feeding facilities, a nutrition teacher can be assigned, but if there are more than 100 and less than 200, two places under the jurisdiction of the same educational support office can jointly have a nutrition teacher. .

Under the plan, the Seoul Metropolitan Bureau of Education operates a ‘Relief Meals Support Group’ made up of external experts such as nutrition teachers and teachers to provide advice and guidance to kindergartens. Education on food poisoning prevention and nutrition management is provided for the kindergarten director and food service staff, and compliance with life and safety management standards is verified and guided.

For 265 private kindergartens with fewer than 100 students excluded from the School Meals Act, the relevant guidelines assist hygiene management and provide information on standardized food and nutrition. Small private kindergartens will be guided by compulsory registration at the ‘Child Food Management Support Center’ by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety before December 30 this year.

Hygiene education for kindergarten administrators, nutrition teachers, nutritionists and cooks will also be strengthened from March to November. Workers’ medical checks are carried out every 6 months and records are kept for 2 years. Every day before cooking, a hygiene manager checks the kitchen worker’s state of health, and if there is a suspicious symptom of food poisoning or a hand wound, it is excluded from cooking or serving.

Each private kindergarten also provides financial support by paying up to 5 million won each so that it can be used to purchase kitchen utensils. Individual and annex kindergartens are paid for the purchase of transportation equipment for classroom meals and for meals at a suitable temperature. A supplemental allowance of 600,000 won per person per year is provided to public kindergarten food service personnel who cook together.

On that day, Seoul Superintendent Jo Hee-yeon insisted that kindergartens should provide free education after elementary, middle and high schools. The Office of Education estimates that the annual cost of free meals for kindergartens in Seoul will reach 83.4 billion won. Superintendent Cho said, “After 10 years have passed since the first introduction of free meals in Seoul, school meals have become an important pillar of universal welfare.” top priority. I propose to establish a consultation framework with the Seoul Metropolitan Bureau of Education as soon as possible. “
