The Japanese government decided on the 26th to suspend the new entry of foreigners from around the world. In addition to the airport quarantine, cases of infection with a new variant of coronavirus infection (Corona 19) originating in the United Kingdom have been confirmed in Tokyo.

According to the Nippon Geizai Shimbun, the Japanese government’s measures to suspend new entry to the country are from 28 to the end of January 2021. Japanese or foreigners residing in Japan can return or re-enter Japan. However, the restrictions are further tightened, such as not allowing them to quarantine for two weeks after returning home, which was exempt under certain conditions.

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga received a report from an official from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, a ministry in charge, at the prime minister’s residence in Tokyo this afternoon, and discussed the countermeasures. At a press conference the day before, Prime Minister Suga implied the policy of strengthening mizugi countermeasures to block the influx of infectious agents through airports and ports, saying, “I will quickly reinforce countermeasures while observing the situation in each country. “with respect to countermeasures against the COVID-19 variant.

The Japanese government has allowed new entry to foreigners who have been in Japan for three months or more for a medium or long term, subject to quarantine for two weeks after entering the country in October. However, after the spread of crown strain 19 in the UK was confirmed, it has been decided to stop the new entry of the UK from the 24th and from South Africa from the 26th. This measure was expanded to the world in response to the signs of the spread of the COVID-19 variant in Korea. The easing of quarantine for Japanese returning to or re-entering from foreign countries was also stopped for those returning from the UK on the 24th, but will be extended to the world from the 28th.

The reason the Japanese government has responded quickly is that the airport quarantine has likely already been violated. The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced the previous day (25) that five men and women who arrived from the UK via Haneda Airport in Tokyo and Kansai Airport in Osaka were infected with the Corona 19 variant.

However, two people, including a man in his 30s who had stayed in the UK in Tokyo, and a woman in his 20s, who had stayed in the UK in Tokyo, were confirmed to be infected with the COVID-19 variant. After returning home as captain on the 16th, the man tested positive at a medical institution in the province on the 21st for symptoms such as coughing. Women in their 20s, who are in close contact with men, have no history of staying in the UK. This is the first time that a person infected with the COVID-19 variant has not been to the UK in Japan. The two have been hospitalized in medical institutions in Tokyo since 24.

On the other hand, on this day (at 8:00 pm), the number of new confirmed corona 19 cases in Japan was 3,877, the highest in history. Tokyo also registered 949 people, breaking the all-time record.
