On the 13th, Judge Lee Heon-sook, who was the sole criminal officer of the Daejeon District Court, sentenced A (30), a public official of the Daejeon District Office, to two years in prison, charged with violate the special law on the punishment of crimes of sexual violence. It also ordered a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program and a five-year limit for employment in institutions related to children and youth.
Deputy Judge Lee Heon-suk explained the reason for the sentence, saying: “The crime of shooting with hidden cameras installed in various places is very bad” and “I have not received forgiveness from the victims.”
Mr. A, a civil servant from Daedeok-gu’s Daejeon office, is suspected of meddling in the women’s restroom at the district office for about a month from mid-June, installing cameras in toilet paper cases, and took pictures of women in secret. Among the victims, A’s colleagues, public officials, were also investigated.
Mr. A’s crime was revealed through an internal employee report on July 21 that “there is a camera installed in the women’s bathroom on the third floor of the district office annex.” The district office verified closed circuit television (CCTV) video and reported that Mr. A had installed a hidden camera and reported it to the police.
After receiving the report, the police arrested Mr. A at the scene and obtained a statement admitting to the crime. The police also found evidence, such as hidden camera related parties, in Mr. A’s vehicle. The police also confirmed the appearance of Mr. A entering the women’s bathroom through CCTV footage.
The police and Daedeok-gu’s office carried out a thorough investigation of all the bathrooms in the building and discovered three additional hidden cameras installed by Mr. A on floors 3 and 4 of the annex. It was investigated that Mr. A did not leak the recorded video abroad. When the crime became known, Daedeok-gu’s office held an emergency countermeasures meeting and decided to cancel Mr. A.
Previously, in the decision trial held on the 13th of last month, the prosecution said: “It is a serious crime for public officials who existed so that the state and citizens secretly photographed themselves in the bathroom,” a four-year prison . And so.
At the time, Mr. A appealed for a sentence, saying, “I want to go to all the victims and get down on my knees and apologize” and “I will do everything I can to get the victims back.”
