Damwon Gaming of Korea defeated Suning Gaming of China and won the first World Championship since its inception. It’s been three years since the Korean LCK team won the World Cup final.
On the 31st, Damwon beat Suning 3-1 in the final of the 2020 ‘League of Legends (LoL) World Championship (Rolled Cup)’ held at the SAIC Motor Pudong Arena in Shanghai, China, and lifted the Summoner’s Cup.
Damwon’s ‘Raccoon’, Jang Ha-kwon, ‘Canyon’ Kim Gun-bu, ‘Showmaker’ Heo Soo, ‘Ghost’ Jang Yong-jun, and ‘Beril’ Jeon Joo-hee participated. Suning appeared in ‘Bin’ Chen Zebin, ‘Sofm’ Le Quang Zui, ‘Angel’ Sang Tao, ‘Fan Feng’ Tang Hwan Feng, ‘Sword Art’ Fu Shu.
Like the World Cup final, there was a long battle from the first set to 43 minutes. Suning brought out Jungle Shen and Top Wukong. Damwon announced a pleasant start by destroying Suning’s Nexus after fierce combat. From the beginning, Damwon constantly pursued dragons and pressured Suning. However, even though Suning delivered dragons, he was not pushed around in the battles that took place everywhere. It was difficult to predict the winning team until 30 minutes after the game started.
Damwon won the item fight one after another with the daring game of Beryl’s Pantheon. Beryl sank with Wukong and Leona in every major matchup and in the meantime the rest of the team managed to defeat the Suning champions individually. Damwon, who fought until the third Battle of Baron, defeated Suning’s Nexus in the 43rd minute and won the first set.

In the second set, Suning eliminated Top Fiora and Jungle Rengar, who rarely saw each other at the World Cup. Fiora and Renga relentlessly targeted Damwon’s Mid Lucian and led a small battle. This operation worked. The performance of Vien, who cast Fiora after breaking the expectation of ‘a combination with many weaknesses’ was terrifying. Steadily growing Fiora not only pressed the side but also swept a pentakill down the midline around the 33rd minute and decided to play as she was.
The third set was the most important game of the day. Both teams had a close match that no one could easily predict. The kill score and gold dominant team continued to change. Kennen from ‘Raccoon’ played an active role in this game. Suning fought relentlessly on the top line with Top Jacks leading, but the ‘Raccoon’ and ‘Cannon’ calmly responded and impeded the attack. In this process, Damwon continued to grow steadily at the mid and base lines. Both teams showed enthusiasm little by little, but as a result, Damwon gradually created a more favorable situation. Damwon took 3 sets as he was, earning a great victory at Baron Hanta that took place in the 33rd minute.
In the fourth set, Suning came out with a surprisingly soft ban-pick. Damwon of Beryl and Kindred of Canyon’s pantheon of support put heavy pressure on the opponent from the start. Damwon scored a double kill in a rock crab showdown five minutes after the game started. Suning began to play more courageously when he dedicated his first kills in a situation where it could be the last match. Suning attempted a drastic dive and pressed on the baseline, aiming for a chance to pull back. But Damwon replied calmly. Suning was unable to stop the Canyon Kindred, who had grown well from the start, and Caitlin’s growth was terrifying as well. Finally, Damwon, who managed to hunt down the fourth dragon and the baron, destroyed the Suning Nexus in 26 minutes and decided to win.

Immediately after the game, the raccoon asked a question about how to win the championship, saying, “I am happy to have finished the beginning showing that LCK is a strong league. The showmaker said: “Last year, I fell out of the quarterfinals and felt my incompetence, and I tried my best to help the team as much as I could.”
On Suning’s performance, the raccoon said: “It was a team that was not expected to play starting with a forbidden selection” and “Instead of predicting, we first found what to do. It was very difficult to play the game.” The showmaker said: “Suning is a team that has good shots and angles, and our team is also a team that has good shots, so we responded as calmly as possible.”
Raccoon said: “We are going so far, so neither the fans nor we have imagined it,” he said. “It is truly an honor and I will work hard in the future.” That day, the final MVP went to Damwon Jungler Canyon.
