Candidate Jung Young-ae, Minister for Gender Equality and Family, stated that it is difficult to view the controversy over condolences to the mother-in-law of former Chungnam Governor Ahn Hee-jeong as a ‘second offense’ against the victim. Candidate Jung’s comments contradict the opinion of women’s organizations that “the second offense is correct” and controversy is expected.

Candidate Chung said, “It is a matter related to the culture of expressing condolences in Korea,” when Representative Yang Geum-hee asked about the controversy about Governor Ahn’s condolences at his personal audience held at the National Assembly on the 24th.

Candidate Chung explained the concept of secondary offense, “Under the law, secondary offense is limited to the act of convicting or allowing the victim to be specified, or the act of revealing the identity and information of the victim.”

He added, “So it can be said that the definition of secondary damage and these things should be flexibly changed in the future, but I have a little doubt whether this is the first case (condolences to Governor Ahn Jeon’s mother).

In July, when Governor Ahn, who was serving a sentence for sexual violence against a deputy secretary, was jailed with his injured mother, a second controversy erupted for causing a condolences parade of political figures to continue at the vacant seat. President Moon Jae-in did not visit the slum, but sent a harmony with the words ‘President Moon Jae-in’.

The direction of candidate Jung’s response to former Governor Ahn’s mother-sang’s condolences is interpreted to be different from showing that “even a friend of mine is speaking” at hearings.

Regarding the suspicion of sexual harassment by former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon and former Busan Mayor Oh Geo-don, he said: “I agree that it is a power sex crime,” while a comment from a candidate Byeon Chang-heum from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said: “Women are reluctant to have breakfast with strangers because of makeup.” He also mentioned that “it is inappropriate because it contains prejudices against women.”

Furthermore, he criticized the book by Tak Hyeon-min, the Blue House medical secretary, who had been on the cutting board with a disrespectful comment from a woman, saying, “I think it is not appropriate as a distorted sexual consciousness.”

Regarding the women’s demands that Secretary Tak be removed, she expressed her willingness to convey related views to the president in the future, saying: “It is not appropriate to respond to the staff of the presidential secretary’s office.”
