Highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) was confirmed in duck farms in Namwon and Gurye, Jeollanam-do after Gyeonggi and Chungbuk. Concerns about the large-scale spread of AI are mounting as suspicions have also been raised at a bell duck farm in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do.

According to the Central Avian Influenza Accident Control Office (heavy water version) on the 25th, cattle raised on one of the Namwon fattening duck farms and 2 Gurye fattening duck farms where H5 type antigen was detected AI before slaughter and regular inspections the day before were highly pathogenic. It was confirmed by AI. The meat ducks from the other farms are currently undergoing a detailed inspection.

The heavy water plant prophylactically killed the young poultry within a 3 km radius of the farm where highly pathogenic AI appeared. Movement of farm-raised poultry within a 10 km radius will be restricted for 30 days and an AI inspection will be conducted. In addition, all poultry farms in Namwon and Gurye were restricted for 7 days.

At a duck farm in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, H5 type AI antigen was detected during inspection and inspection at the Chungnam Animal Health Laboratory that day. This farm is raising 10,000 species of ducks. A careful examination is currently underway to determine the high pathogenicity and the results are expected to be released at dawn on the 26th.

Quarantine authorities found that the farm’s ducks had been in storage for about 20 weeks, so they haven’t laid eggs yet, so there is no external export. The quarantine authorities controlled access to the farm, carried out epidemiological investigations and took quarantine measures such as restrictions on the movement of farms within a 10 km radius and surveillance and inspection.

If the virus detected on the farm is confirmed to be highly pathogenic, plan to kill all the poultry in the protected area (within a 3 km radius). It was found that within 500 m of the farm, 115,000 ducks were raised by one farm, and around 484,700 birds were raised by 14 farms within 3 km.

The route of infection has not been identified. However, quarantine authorities estimate that the area around the farm was contaminated with feces from wild birds and the virus was transferred by other animals such as voles.

As a result, highly pathogenic AI has been produced in 24 poultry farms in 8 regions, including Gimhae, Gyeongsangnam-do, Yeosu, Gyeongbu, Gumi, Chungbuk, Hwaseong, Busan and Buyeo, Chungnam, and an experience farm in Cheonan, Chungnam.

A heavy water plant official said: “To prevent the spread of avian influenza, please refrain from visiting migratory bird habitats as much as possible, and if unavoidable, please perform thorough personal hygiene, such as disinfection and wearing a mask ”. “When you find dead birds, avoid contact with them. Report to the authorities immediately. “
