A highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) occurred on a duck fattening farm in Namwon, Jeollabuk-do.
Confirmed ‘H5N8 type’ of meat duck farm in Samae-myeon, Namwon-si
Detecting antigens in life … “High pathogenicity research”
Jeonbuk-do announced on the 24th that “a highly pathogenic type AI’H5N8 ‘was confirmed at a meat duck farm in Samae-myeon, Namwon-si.” The day before, AI antigen type H5 was detected in a pre-shipment inspection of the broiler duck from the farm, and confirmed as highly pathogenic as a result of a close examination.
The presence of highly pathogenic AI is 23rd among domestic farms and 5th in Jeollabuk-do after 2 Jeongeup, 1 Imsil and 1 Gochang. Since last month 26, a duck meat farm in Soseong-myeon, Jeongeup, was the first poultry farm in Korea to be diagnosed with highly pathogenic AI.
Jeonbuk-do quarantine authorities plan to prophylactically kill 260,000 breeding poultry on five poultry farms within a 3 km radius of the farm. In addition, 30 poultry farms within a 10 km radius, 2.66 million, will not be able to move for 30 days and will be inspected immediately. All poultry farms in Namwon, where avian influenza has occurred, have movement restricted for 7 days.
At another fattening duck farm in Jusaeng-myeon, Namwon-si, on the 24th, AI type H5 antigen was detected in the pre-shipment inspection, and quarantine authorities are investigating whether it is highly pathogenic. About 14,000 ducks were killed on the farm. According to quarantine authorities, it is determined whether or not 2 poultry farms and 43,000 poultry are killed within 3 km of the farm based on high pathogenicity.
Jong-hwan Lee, head of Jeonbuk-do animal quarantine department, said: “Poultry farms do not visit small rivers, farmland, nearby farmland, they sprinkle quicklime around the farm while controlling access to vehicles and people, disinfect the inside of the farm yard and livestock, disinfect their hands, and change their boots when entering the livestock shed. “Please follow the quarantine measures like Shinki thoroughly.”
