On Saturday 31st, Halloween day, hundreds of people flocked to downtown areas such as Itaewon, Seoul, Hongdae, Gangnam and Seomyeon, Busan from early evening. Most wore masks, but social distancing was lacking due to the crowd.
In addition, large-scale clubs in downtown areas were voluntarily closed to prevent the spread of the infection, but there are concerns that it may be a new catalyst for the spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), as emotional and other bars are open.
At around 6pm that day, the Itaewon Station area in Yongsan-gu was packed with people trying to enjoy Halloween. In front of the quarantine gate installed by the Itaewon Special Tourism Zone Association, people who want to register on QR lined up 200 meters long. Most wear the masks well, but social distancing seems to be lacking because they are in a situation where they have to queue.
Around 7pm, the outdoor seating in restaurants and bars was full. Masks were worn when walking down the street, but citizens who enjoyed drinking and eating outdoors had to remove the masks.
On weekends, the streets of Hongik University in Mapo-gu, Seoul, where many young people gather, were also full of people starting at 5 pm that day. Hongdae’s “specialty” on the street caught people’s attention. Most of the citizens who saw it wore masks, but they had to stay tuned to see the performance.
It was the same as crowds also huddled around Gangnam Station, where pubs were concentrated in a similar perspective. A bar caught the attention of passersby by setting up pumpkins and hanging skull-patterned hangers. This bar was so popular that there were no empty seats around 6:30 pm and there were long lines outside.
Seomyeon, a representative area of downtown Busan, was also crowded. 15 venues, including two famous clubs in Seomyeon and 13 gamseong bars, decided to voluntarily close down and notified the city of Busan. However, a club-type entertainment bar in Seomyeon is full from the beginning of the night on the 31st, after the previous day. On the other hand, on the 31st, 128 new cases of Corona 19 were registered, registering three digits for four consecutive days.
