The presidential palace in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, was filled with fans trying to see the last path of soccer hero Diego Maradona.
People who could not say goodbye before condolences closed time crowded together and the police mobilized tear gas and rubber bullets to take control.
On the 26th (local time), tens of thousands of condolences lined the Casa Rosada, the presidential palace, where Maradona’s body was consecrated, reported Argentine media and AP / AFP.
Argentines flocked to the Casa Rosada in the center of the city since dawn to greet Maradona, who died at age 60 due to a sudden heart attack the day before.

Some fans had already waited in front of the Casa Rosada on the night before the condolences began at 6 a.m. As time passed, the line grew even longer, up to several kilometers.
The live video of the Diario Argentino Clarine shows the condolences waiting in line from nearby roads that enter the Casa Rosada with large black ribbons.
Inside a coffin of the deceased was placed, covered with the Argentine flag and a uniform with the number 10, and the tributes passed and greeted the last in their own way.
They drew a name, clapped vigorously, and threw a uniform or flower to blow a kiss. There were also fans shouting Maradona’s name through tears.
“He (Maradona) made Argentina known throughout the world,” said Nauel Deelima, 30, who found a grim early on crutches. “To say goodbye to the great man who gave us great joy.” I came, “he said.

Christian Montelli (22), a fan of the Argentine Boca Juniors team, where Maradona played, cried to Reuters and said: “I felt like I lost my father because I loved Maradona as much as my father.”
Before receiving general condolences for this day, the family and acquaintances said goodbye to the deceased for the first time.
The Associated Press reported that ex-wife, children and soccer players also attended, including teammates who died during the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, when Argentina won the championship.
Argentine President Alberto Fernandes, along with his wife, arrived at the Casa Rosada by helicopter from the official residence and offered their condolences.
He said in a local radio interview, “The only thing I want to say (to the deceased) is that I am grateful. How many people can give people this joy? I just want to thank them,” said the Ranación newspaper.

On this day, the media inside and outside Argentina commemorated the ‘god of soccer’ with headlines such as “God has died” and “Now God has gone to heaven.” Maradona was called ‘D10S’ putting the number 10 in the Spanish ‘Dios’, which means ‘god’.
The day before, the presidential palace announced that it would receive their condolences for three days from that day, but the body of the deceased was made to Jangji tonight at the will of the grieving family.
Before condolences closing time, 4:30 pm, fans who were unable to greet Maradona ran in disarray, causing police and fans to collide.
When police tried to control the entry of the condolences crowd, angry fans threw stones and police tried to disperse them with tear gas and rubber bullets, the Associated Press reported.
The presidential palace said it will extend the condolence time until 7 p.m. to calm fans, but the confusion continued and Maradona’s coffin was moved to another location inside the Casa Rosada for security reasons.

Finally, the body of the deceased left the Casa Rosada before 7 in the morning and was transported to the Beya Vista Park Cemetery in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. This park cemetery is also the place where Maradona’s parents, who died for the first time, were buried.
Fans lined the street where the vehicle was passing and said the last salute.
The enthusiasm of fans for the latest path of national heroes has overcome the fear of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19).
The Argentine government has long carried out an intensive quarantine of the entire population to prevent the spread of Corona 19, but it has not stopped the crowds in commemoration of Maradona.
Among the fans who gathered in front of the presidential palace that day to commemorate the deceased were people singing or drinking without a mask, Reuters said.
