Mr. A (28), who was accused of asking for billions of billions to expose Samsung Electronics Vice President Lee Jae-yong’s accusations about the routine administration of propofol, was sentenced to prison.

Judge Byun Min-seon, solely responsible for the 10 criminal offenses of the Seoul Central District Court, sentenced A, who was tried on the 14th for violating the Punishment for Violence (Joint Blackmail) Act, to 1 year in prison and June. Mr. A has been tried in custody, and at the last trial by decision, the prosecution requested that Mr. A be sentenced to two years and six months in prison.

Chief Judge Byun admitted Mr. A’s charges and said, “If you look at various pieces of evidence, you are doomed.” However, it was revealed that Mr. A had no criminal record and that the crime was only attempted, bearing in mind that Mr. A made no profit and was reflecting on it. Mr. A has continuously presented his reflections to the court two days before sentencing after the decision of 25 last month.

However, the court also emphasized that Mr. A’s guilt was not light. Deputy Judge Byun said: “The defendant has also investigated the residence of the victim (Vice President Lee) in advance and prepared for the crime carefully, such as providing a cannon phone,” he said. Although the threats did not result in any real money being received, the court said that “the money we are trying to get from the threats has run into the billions and severe punishment is inevitable because the victims have not forgiven us.” After the sentence, Mr. A did not react and left with a feeling of arrest.

Mr. A conspired with another accomplice from June to July, threatened Lee’s side, and was brought to trial on charges of attempting to obtain about 2 billion won. At the time, it was investigated that Mr. A and others threatened to turn him over to the prosecution, saying there is evidence related to Lee’s administration of propofol. It turned out that only Mr. A threatened at Lee’s side. If propofol is not bought at a high price, he is accused of trying to knock down 400 million won to post medication-related videos to the prosecution.

Mr. A was arrested in August and handed over to trial. Mr. A was the boyfriend of a nursing assistant at a plastic surgery clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, and is also a public interest reporter who reported allegations of illegal administration of Propofol by Vice President Lee to the Rights Commission Civil. Later, he interviewed Newstapa, an exploratory outlet, about this suspicion.
