While the spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) has not abated, most of the participants held a no-mask dance party at the USFK base on the 4th, sparking controversy.

According to US forces in Korea, on the 8th, the Humphreys salsa club dance party was held on the 4th at the ‘Flyline Tap Room’ restaurant at Camp Humphreys, a US military base located in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do .

Photos and videos posted by some of the participants on the Social Network Service (SNS) show dozens of participants dancing without wearing masks or wearing them correctly.

The appearance of the participants is controversial as it violates the government’s quarantine guidelines, which is implementing the second phase of social distancing. In particular, they are causing controversy for violating the USFK’s own quarantine rules.

The Foreign Ministry requested the USFK to comply with quarantine guidelines through the USFK State Agreement (SOFA) channel. Since the United States military base is an extraterritorial jurisdiction, the Korean government cannot enforce the quarantine rules.

Consequently, it is known that the USFK side will take action against quarantine, including closing the event site.
