On the 23rd, the Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) convened experts to investigate 26 cases of death after vaccination against influenza (flu). The bottom line is that the causal relationship between the flu vaccine and death is extremely low. As a result, the Agency for Disease Control and Prevention is trying to avoid stopping flu vaccination.
● Damage investigation team “Not related to vaccination and death”
As deaths continued after influenza vaccination, the Agency for Disease Control and Prevention convened a meeting of the vaccine harms research group and a committee of vaccination experts, one after the other. The Vaccination Injury Investigation Group, consisting of 10 experts, is a specialized committee under the Korean Disease Administration that investigates the causes of diseases, disabilities and deaths caused by vaccination and investigates compensation for damages.
As a result of a comprehensive review of the interim autopsy results by the National Police Agency and the National Institute for Scientific Research, the damage investigation team determined that the 26 deaths were not associated with the influenza vaccine. As a result of the autopsy of 20 death cases, 8 cases were confirmed as cardiovascular diseases, 2 cases were cerebrovascular diseases, and 3 cases were other causes. Seven cases undergo additional autopsies. The six cases that were not autopsied were found to have no cause for vaccination or cause, such as death from disease (3 cases) and suffocation (1 case). The damage investigation team decided that it was not anaphylactic syndrome, which is an acute adverse reaction to vaccination. Consequently, the Damage Investigation Team recommended to the Agency for Disease Control and Prevention that the vaccination business continue to take into account the epidemic of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19). The Agency for Disease Control and Prevention will hold an additional meeting on the morning of the 24th. At present, it seems highly likely that it will conclude with continued vaccination. This is because the flu epidemic season is right now. The 2017-2019 Flu Pandemic Advisory was issued between mid-November and early December. If vaccination continues, all free vaccines will be available starting next week. The influenza vaccination schedule was changed due to an accident at room temperature during vaccine distribution. According to the schedule of changes, people aged 62 to 69 who are the last remaining candidates for the free vaccination on the 26th will receive 70 years or older on the 19th.
● Local governments and medical institutions stop autoinoculation.
However, concerns about the flu vaccine remain. On the 23rd, additional cases of death after vaccination were reported in Seoul, Chungnam, Gyeongbuk, Jeonbuk, and Jeonnam. Most of them were people aged 60 and over with underlying diseases. Starting at 1:00 p.m. on the 23rd, a total of 36 people. A total of 789 cases were also reported at 22 after influenza vaccination. There were 147 local reactions, 179 allergies, 155 fevers, and 283 others.
The number of people receiving vaccines is decreasing without the anxiety going away. According to the Agency for Disease Control and Prevention, the percentage of those who received the influenza-free vaccine at 0 o’clock on day 23, 70% of those under 12 years of age (single vaccination subjects), 49 , 9% from 13 to 18 years, 35.1% of pregnant women and over 62 years 39.8% of the elderly. At 0 hours on the 21st, 68.8% under 12 years old, 48.2% between 13-18 years old, 34.1% pregnant and 31.1% over 62 years old did not increase significantly.
Some municipalities and medical institutions have stopped getting vaccinated against influenza. This is because the safety of the vaccine has not been confirmed. Regarding this move, the Korean Disease Administration said: “The government has guided local governments not to decide whether to reserve vaccines on their own so that the national vaccination project can move forward smoothly.”
