The 86-year-old Dalai Lama, a spiritual leader in Tibet, was vaccinated against the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19).
According to Indian media such as NDTV and Associated Press on the 7th, the Dalai Lama said: “To avoid serious problems, this vaccine will be very useful.”
The vaccination against the Dalai Lama was carried out at the Jonal Hospital in Dharamsala, in northern India, where the government in exile is located. The Dalai Lama stayed in the hospital for about 30 minutes after the vaccination to see if any side effects occurred.
GD Gupta, a doctor at the hospital, explained that “the Dalai Lama came to the hospital and received vaccinations just like the general public.” Ten people living in the Dalai Lama’s official residence were also vaccinated on the same day.
Meanwhile, the Dalai Lama escaped from the Tibetan capital, Lhasa, in 1959 to escape pressure from China, established an exile government in India, and continued non-violent independence movements for more than 60 years. In 1989 he received the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his contributions. The 86-year-old Dalai Lama this year has announced that he will decide whether to retire from the Dalai Lama’s post. The Dalai Lama is the title, and the current Dalai Lama has 14 generations.
In India, two types of vaccines are being used for vaccination: the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is commissioned by the local pharmaceutical company Serum Institute (SII), and a vaccine developed by Barat Biotech, an Indian company. Both the AstraZeneca vaccine and the Barat Biotech vaccine require two doses.
India’s 22 million people have completed the first dose
By this day, around 22 million people in India had completed the first dose of the vaccine.
India plans to finish vaccinating a total of 300 million people by July-August, but some targets prevent vaccines and related application defects from overlapping, causing a slowdown in speed. Following medical personnel, police and soldiers, this month vaccinations for the general public for chronic comorbidities older than 60 years or older than 45 years have begun.
The number of new confirmed cases per day, which reached 100,000 in September last year and then fell to around 10,000 at the beginning of last month, is rising again to the late 10,000 level. The cumulative number of confirmed cases in India that day was 1,121,580 (based on global gauges).
