The Ulsan headquarters of the KCTU has launched a general strike in Ulsan urging the government to halt amendments to the labor law and to legislate National Assembly legislation, such as the ‘Corporate Punishment for Severe Accidents Act’, while the two Unions representing Ulsan are showing mixed steps in their participation in the strike.

Starting at 3 p.m. on the 25th, the Ulsan Federation of Civil Unions Federation Headquarters held a rally at the same time at the Ulsan City Hall of the Democratic Party and the City Hall of Ulsan and an all-out fight began.

The Confederation of Trade Unions urged the National Assembly and the government to debate without delay the reform of the labor legislation held in the National Assembly on this day and to legislate the ‘Law on corporate punishment for serious accidents’ and the ‘Law Jeon Taeil 3’ union-initiated.

However, instead of canceling the gathering of the entire population to prevent the spread of Corona 19, a rally is being held in several places with only a minimum of 100 people participating.

“The cause of this general strike is the labor reform initiated by the government and promoted by the Democratic Party. It is on the left and right sides of the ‘Jeon Tae-il Law 3’, ignoring the demands of the people. ” “I urge the government and the ruling party that the Democratic Party make an honest decision.”

However, due to the concerns of local communities and companies over the reappearance of Corona 19, the two unions representing Ulsan are showing mixed movements in the participation of the Civil Union in this strike.

The Hyundai Motors union and the metals union, which have the largest union members in Ulsan, participate in the rally with only the extended executives on strike for 2 hours, while the former union members go on strike for 4 hours.

It is known that the Hyundai-Jungbo union decided to participate in the general strike of the Federation of Civil Unions as a means of putting pressure on management in the two-year wage and collective bargaining that it has been fighting last year and this year.

Instead of canceling the ceremony to bring together a large number of people, aware of the risk of Corona 19 spreading, the union met by districts and dispersed to the strike site.

Regarding the union strike for all union members, management said: “It is regrettable that the particular labor-employer representative has been forced to strike in a situation where all efforts were put into activities of quarantine, how to preventively raise social distancing to the second stage after the reproliferation of Corona 19 “.
