Mark Ramsayer, a professor at Harvard University Law School in the United States, presented a message of support for the recent controversy with a thesis that defined Japanese military women solace victims as “voluntary prostitutes.”
According to a report by the Harvard Crimson, a Harvard University school newspaper, on the 5th (local time), Professor Ramsey sent a message of thanks to a supporter.
“Professor Ramsay is Japan’s only hope,” said Harvard Crimson, who sent an email with comments repealing the nationality of the Korean people.
Harvard Crimson also attached a Twitter account that wrote something similar.
The account operator insisted that “the Koreans continue to attack Professor Ramsey” and “have a peculiar tendency to attack more if they are weak.”
Professor Ramsey, who saw this, told Harvard Crimson that day: “I feel more rewarded when I receive emails from people with words of thanks and encouragement for my work.”
He also acknowledged his relationship with the Japanese government, but emphasized that “such relationship did not affect the thesis at all.”
Earlier, on the 1st of last month, Professor Ramsey published a thesis claiming that comfort women in the Japanese army were “prostitutes” rather than “sex slaves,” and it received criticism from many.
Consequently, the Massachusetts Korean Association decided to hold a condemnation contest in front of Harvard University calling for the withdrawal of Professor Ramsey’s thesis.
Some local Americans and Korean Harvard students are also known to be participating in this rally, organized by local Korean associations in Massachusetts.
According to the official website of Harvard Law School, Professor Ramsey’s official title is “Mitsubishi Professor of Japanese Legal Studies.” In 2018, he received the Japanese government medal “ Rook Ilchi ” for contributing to Japanese studies and promoting Japanese culture.
