During the general elections on April 15, Choi Kang-wook, a representative of the Open Democratic Party, who was prosecuted for spreading false information, completely denied the charges at the first trial.

According to the court on the 11th, Section 21 of the Criminal Agreement of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Mi-ri) held the first trial preparation date for Choi’s alleged violation of the Election of Positions Law public.

The preparatory date for a trial is a procedure in which the prosecution and the defendant’s position on the prosecution are heard and the issues of the future trial are resolved. Since the defendant was not required to attend, Choi did not show up that day.

Choi’s defense team said, “The defendant actually expressed opinions, not public announcements, but the prosecution prosecuted them,” he said. “Furthermore, in the complaint, it is impossible to know which part of the defendant’s words is false.”

He added: “In that sense, this case is illegal because it does not specify the facts of the accusation,” he said. “We judge that it is a matter that should be dismissed.”

Previously, the prosecution charged Choi the night before, about four hours before the expiration of the electoral law (midnight on October 15).

The prosecution said that although Choi wrote a false confirmation of his son’s internship in the past, he appeared on YouTube during the elections and said, “(The false writing of the internship confirmation) is not true.” Accused.

In Choi’s trial, the key is whether the internship confirmation form was falsely written. In fact, on January 23, the prosecution is also formally indicting for obstruction of work, claiming that Choi wrote a false confirmation of the internship of former minister Cho’s son, and a separate trial is underway.

Regarding the complaints of obstruction, the lawyer said: “The accusation for obstruction of business was only prosecuted for drafting a confirmation letter, and it is not mentioned whether the contents are false.”

In October 2017, when Choi was working as a lawyer at the Cheongmaek law firm, the prosecution falsely issued a confirmation of the internship activity of former Minister Cho’s son, and it was believed that it interfered with the admissions work of the supported graduate school. by his son Cho. It is known that the son of former Minister Cho submitted the confirmation to Korea University and Yonsei University.

Preparation for CEO Choi’s next test will take place on the 2nd of next month.
