The reproduction rate of the infection is an indicator of how many people infect around a confirmed person. If the number is 1 or more, the expansion trend continues and the number of patients increases, and only when it falls below 1 does the expansion trend soften.

Manager Lim explained that the number of new confirmed cases in Korea surpassed the 1,000 mark for four days. “The cumulative number of sources of infection in the community is very large” and “the size of confirmed cases increases in proportion to the cumulative sources of infection.”

He said: “We have a temporary screening laboratory in the metropolitan area and, as of today, we find a total of 286 confirmed cases,” he said. “If infected people are found hidden, the number of confirmed cases will increase even more.”

Director Lim said: “We are aggressively conducting preventive tests now,” he said. “If we find the source of infection proactively, we are thinking that the current level of confirmed cases will not continue for now.”
