Starting on the 19th, the number of students attending kindergarten, elementary, middle school, and high school nationwide will expand to two-thirds, and the number of days to attend school will increase. The majority of first-grade students in elementary schools across the country are expected to attend school every day, and in regions outside the capital, more schools are expected to transition to full school regardless of grade.

According to the education industry on the 18th, starting on the 19th, the density of schools across the country will drop from one-third (two-thirds for secondary schools) to two-thirds. This is because the Security and Disaster Countermeasures Headquarters lowered the social distancing for Corona 19’s quarantine response from 12 to the first stage.

The Education Ministry strictly enforced the two-thirds limit on the number of attendance only for remodeled schools, overcrowded classrooms and metropolitan schools, and allowed the rest of the region to adjust the density itself based on conditions. Consequently, many schools in regions outside the capital have established a policy of daily school attendance for all students. Daejeon allowed all primary and secondary schools with less than 600 students and all secondary schools with less than 750 students to attend school every day, and in Gwangju, 277 (88.2%) of the 314 schools were able to attend the school. In Daegu, if the number of students per class is 28 or less, it is a school eligible for full attendance.

Even in the case of the metropolitan area where full school attendance is not possible due to density, the majority of elementary school students are expected to attend school every day. The Seoul Metropolitan Bureau of Education allowed elementary school students to attend school every day and second to sixth grade students to attend school 2-4 days a week. Middle schools also plan to gradually increase the number of days in school, primarily in the first grade. Gyeonggi-do Education Office is promoting daily or 4 times a week for 1 ~ 2 elementary school students. In the case of the Incheon City Office of Education, it was suggested to plan to attend school at least three times a week so that Elementary School 1 every day and Middle School 1 attended school.

However, some criticize that the daily school attendance policy of a specific grade would rather restrict the expansion of other grades to the school. There are still voices saying that it is too early to go to school in peace, as there are still around 100 confirmed cases per day and group infections continue. A parent also petitioned in the Blue House National Petitions Bulletin, saying, “Education is important, but health is more important, so school must stop.”
