Apple announced that it will not provide the Lightning-type wired headset in the next iPhone bundle, but it was confirmed that France still offers headphones.

Apple introduced four types of the iPhone 12 series through an online event at sunrise on the 14th (local time US 13), and announced that it will exclude Lightning headphones and chargers from all components of the iPhone package at the future. So in the future the iPhone bundle only includes a USB-C Lightning cable.
Apple cited protecting the environment as a reason for taking this step. “Users already have a lot of adapters to charge and a lot of users have switched to wireless headphones,” Apple said. “Excluding chargers and headphones from the package will reduce carbon emissions.”
By removing the charger and earbuds from the iPhone box, Apple explained that the box will be smaller and lighter, allowing 70% more of the product to be loaded on the shipping pallet, saving more than 2 million tons of carbon per year.
Apple plans to reduce its carbon emissions by 75% by 2030 and develop innovative carbon removal solutions to reduce the remaining 25% of its total carbon footprint.
Consequently, Apple will no longer provide headphones and chargers for the iPhone 11, iPhone XR, and iPhone SE bundles.
However, some have questioned whether Apple’s policy is not one of environmental protection but of cost reduction. It is noted to be a cost-cutting measure to reduce the range of smartphone price increases.
However, despite Apple’s politics and controversy, some countries must include headphones in the iPhone 12 package. It’s France.
In France, in accordance with the law on electromagnetic waves to protect children under 14 from electromagnetic waves, smartphone manufacturers are required to include a ‘hands-free kit’ or ‘headset’ when selling their smartphones. Otherwise, a fine of 75,000 euros (approximately 16.8 million won) will be imposed.
France recommends that users do not place their smartphones close to their head and that they use accessories such as headphones or earphones to reduce exposure to electromagnetic waves during calls.
Therefore, the iPhone 12 box sold in France is slightly larger than the box that does not include the earpiece, and the earpiece is located at the bottom of the smartphone box.
Along with the discontinuation of headphones and chargers, Apple reduced the price of headphones with a Lightning connector from $ 29 (around 33,000 won) to $ 19 (around 21,000 won). In Korea, both the headphones and 20W USB-C power adapters sell for 25,000 won each.
