The day before, 94 people were confirmed in the metropolitan area ‘anonymous prosecutors’ … a total of 479 people in a week
The third coronavirus infection pandemic in Korea (Corona 19) is getting longer and longer. It’s been two weeks since ‘social distancing’ in the metropolitan area rose to 2.5 steps, but the number of confirmed cases continues to rise.
The government is in a situation in which it must stop the spread for the remainder of the week until the 28th, when phase 2.5 of the metropolitan area and the second phase of the measures at the national level end.
This has dropped to triple digits in six days since the last 15 days (880 people), but it is too early to judge that the spread has stopped as it is due to the effect of public holidays, thus reducing the number of inspections compared to working days.
In particular, this ‘third pandemic’ is different from the previous one. During the first and second outbreaks, large-scale infections occurred in specific facilities and groups, making it relatively easy to respond to quarantine. However, in recent years, it has become more difficult to deal with as everyday spaces are simultaneously bursting with rings. Group infections in nursing hospitals and nursing facilities are also of concern.
The average number of new confirmed cases per day during the last week (12,14-20) reached 986. One of the key indicators for adjusting the distance stage, the number of confirmed cases of regional outbreaks is 959 in average per day. It is expected to exceed 1,000 sooner or later.
Among these, infectious disease experts predicted that the current increase in confirmed cases will continue for some time. One expert noted: “In the current situation, there is a high possibility that the number of confirmed cases will increase. We need to increase the distance and reduce contacts and meetings between people.”
On the other hand, the government is struggling to slow the spread of the current situation without increasing the distance as much as possible. An official from the quarantine authority said: “Please be patient and participate a bit more so that we can break the spread trend at the current level without raising it to the third stage.”
