The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee meeting began on the 10th (local time) for the emergency approval of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) from Pfizer, an American pharmaceutical company.
Based on the results of the meeting’s recommendations to be decided in the afternoon, the FDA will soon decide on an emergency approval. FDA Director Stephen Han gave the meaning of “a really important day for America.”
The Vaccines and Biological Drugs Advisory Committee (VRBPAC), an advisory body to the FDA, began a meeting starting at 9 a.m. on the day and began discussions on whether to use the Corona 19 vaccine jointly developed by Pfizer and German Bioentech.
The meeting runs until 6 pm and, through discussions and voting that begin at 3 pm, the advisory committee decides whether to recommend emergency approval to the FDA.
The FDA makes the final decision for emergency approval based on this recommendation. It is noted that there is a possibility that emergency approval will take place as early as the same day.
“This is a really important day for the entire United States,” Han said in an interview with NBC.
“It is definitely an emotional day,” he said, “because this country has suffered so much from this global pandemic,” he said and “it destructively affected so many lives.”
“If emergency approval is achieved and vaccination begins across the country, there will be great hope and great light in this country. I think everyone hopes they can lead a more normal and healthy life beyond now.”

“Today’s meeting is an important step in providing an opportunity to provide valuable advice to outside experts,” Han said in a separate statement.
When the FDA makes an emergency approval decision, the vaccine will begin shipping, but CNN’s broadcast noted that the vaccine is not made immediately.
Vaccination can only be done after the CDC advisory committee makes the decision to recommend a vaccine and is accepted by the CDC.
The CDC Advisory Committee has scheduled emergency meetings on the 11th and 13th.
In the United States, more than 200,000 confirmed cases of corona19 occur per day, and on the 9th the daily death toll exceeded 3,000.
