The head nominee recommendation committee of the National Assembly Office of Crime Investigation of Senior Officials (KPA) announced on the 10th that it had completed the acceptance of 11 candidates for the post of chief airlift. The Public Transportation Minister Candidate Recommendation Committee is scheduled to hold a meeting on the 13th and select two final candidates to recommend President Moon Jae-in.

In a press release on this day, the Practical Support Group of the Air Transport Candidate Recommendation Ministry said: “As a result of the deadline for the presentation of candidates, a total of 11 people applied as candidates for the Minister of Transport Aerial. The president of the Association of Nursing Care Associations presented three candidates, the Democratic Party presented two candidates and the People’s Power proposed four candidates ”.

Attorney Choi Woon-sik (59, 22nd Judicial Research and Training Institute), a court-recommended candidate, was a former special cases prosecutor who served as head of the corruption division of the savings banks of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office during the Lee Myung-bak administration. Lawyer Jeon Hyun-jung (54/22), recommended by Minister Chu, served as the chief judge of the Seoul Central District Court and is the wife of Supreme Judge Kim Jae-hyung. Lead Investigator Kim Jin-wook (54/21) of the Constitutional Court recommended by the Korean Bar Association is a judge, Vice President Lee Geon-ri (57/26) and lawyer Han Myung-Kwan (61/15) are former prosecutors. Vice President Lee Kun-ri has served as chairman of the May 18 Democratization Movement special investigative committee.

The Democratic Party recommended lawyers Jeon Jong-min (53 · 24) and lawyer Kwon Dong-ju (52 · 26), who were former judges, as candidates for the head of the airlift. The former lawyer was actively involved in the prosecution delegation during the 2016 impeachment trial against former President Park Geun-hye. Lawyer Kwon served as a trial investigator at the Supreme Court and at the Chungju Branch of the Cheongju District Court.

The four candidates recommended by the People’s Power are from the prosecution. They are all from Busan and Gyeongnam (PK). Former District Attorney Seok Dong-hyun (60/15) from Busan served as a prosecutor in the Busan District Prosecutor’s Office and the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutor’s Office. In the general elections in April, the Future Integration Party (predecessor of people’s power) requested the nomination of Haeundae Gap in Busan, but was eliminated. Daegu’s former great swordsman, Kim Gyeong-soo (60/17), was from Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, and served as the last great swordsman in the Park Geun-hye administration. Kang Chan-woo, former Suwon District Attorney (58/18), Ha-dong, Gyeongnam, is also a special container who served as the Great Sword’s anti-corruption chief. Lawyer Sohn Ki-ho (61/17) served as the head of the investigation department of the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office and as the head of the Goyang District of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutor’s Office.

There is a view that it will not be easy to select two finalists because the propensities of the candidates recommended by the opposition parties are sharply divided both inside and outside the political sphere. The candidate for Minister of Public Transport must obtain the approval of at least 6 of the 7 members of the nominating committee. If two members of the People’s Power do not agree with the resolution until the end, it is impossible to appoint the candidate to the Minister of Air Transport and it is expected that manpower will be selected.
