Suga, “celebrated the Olympics as a symbol of the overcoming of Corona 19”

Japanese Prime Minister Suga and IOC President Bach have announced that they will postpone the Tokyo Olympics for next year with the participation of the audience. Corona 19 is spreading horribly again in Europe and the United States, but it became clear that there was no ‘Olympic cancellation’. Reports from Tokyo correspondent Lee Gyeong-ah. IOC President Bach visited Japan for the first time after postponing the Tokyo Olympics for a year until July next year. Prime Minister Suga said at the meeting with President Bach that he would surely hold the Tokyo Olympics and be successful. In particular, it has been clarified that he plans to bring spectators to the stadium even amid the spread of Corona 19. President Bach said the meeting gave him confidence that spectators would enter the stadium next year. He stressed that if a vaccine is developed, the IOC will also provide maximum support to those who attend the competition. The two emphasized the success of the Tokyo Olympics, but things are going unevenly. This is because Corona 19 has spread horribly to a level unmatched in the United States and Europe, and qualifiers are not taking place. The Japanese government planned to announce the event’s operating policy within this year, such as exempting Olympic visitors from quarantine for 14 days, but ultimately delayed it until next spring. The IOC, however, said that it was not about the possibility of canceling the Olympics, which is being raised again recently. A recent study found that holding the Olympics instead of canceling them could cut economic losses by a third. The Japanese government is expected to continue preparing for the Olympics despite unpredictable anxiety over the Corona 19 situation. I’m Kyungah Lee from YTN in Tokyo.
