Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, demonstration event of taxis with drones and deliveries … Marketing objective in 2025
On the morning of the 11th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation and the Seoul Metropolitan Government jointly held a demonstration event on the delivery of drones and taxi using the K-drone system in Yeouido, Seoul.
The K-Drone system is a control system that supports the safe operation of drones and is a core research and development (R&D) task for operating drone taxi and drone delivery.
After Incheon and Yeongwol, it was the first drone test flight in the air over central Seoul.
At the event, a demonstration of a drone made to transport people flying over the Han River with four 20 kg bags of rice was deployed.
The drone, equipped with 16 propellers, climbed to about 50 m with a bag of rice and flew 1.8 km over the Han River for about 7 minutes.
The drone is a two-seater class aircraft (EH216) developed by China’s Lee Hang Company, and it was announced that commercialization of drone taxis is not far off through a demo flight.
The government plans to start marketing drone taxis from 2025 after a period of preparation.
By period, it is divided into four stages: preparation (2020-2024), early (2025-2029), growth (2030-2035) and maturity (after 2035).
At the event, a drone technology to carry a delivery box was also demonstrated.
A letter containing Seoul citizens’ expectations for urban air traffic, a drone carrying rice cakes and chopsticks commemorating the event successfully completed the handover mission to event officials.
During the drone delivery, four experts in each field held a talk show on the topic of the present and future of drones, development of the K-drone system, construction of a landing site for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. , and the future and challenges of urban air transport.
Several national and foreign companies that manufacture drone taxis, which are ‘flying taxis’, participated in the event.
First, the flight scene of the aircraft being developed by small and medium-sized national companies with their own technology was remotely broadcast.
Hyundai Motor Company and Hanwha Systems participating in the ‘UAM Team Korea’ public-private council, which launched in June, exhibited a model of the body that is being developed for mass production in each showroom.
In particular, Hanwha Systems has introduced a scaled-down model that is one-third the size of a “Mariposa” air taxi currently in development.
In addition, he also revealed a plan to build a ‘verti-hub’, a city air traffic terminal for drone taxis, at Gimpo airport.
Overseas, in addition to China, the US lift plane’s single passenger (hexa) class aircraft exhibited commercially developed aircraft on take-off and showed various possibilities of using vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) technology , such as recreation and emergency rescue.
Around the venue, a new aircraft concept was also presented which is being produced and researched in various fields such as drone manufacturers, hobbyists and universities.
“Through this demonstration, we will soon experience the future of urban air transport,” said Son Myung-soo, who attended the event. “Continue to provide opportunities for drone taxis to fly to national companies according to the roadmap in the future.” We plan to actively support the development of the national industry, such as preparing a reasonable system for commercialization as soon as possible. “
