In a lawsuit brought against Japan by victims of comfort women in the Japanese military and their families, Lee Yong-soo testified directly about her experiences as a comfort woman in 1944.
On the 11th, Gwak Ye-nam’s grandmother, etc., held at the hearing of the 15th Civil Settlement Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Min Seong-cheol) came out and testified on the sixth day of a Damage lawsuit filed against the Japanese government.
Grandma first explained why she filed the lawsuit. The grandmother said: “I have been called comfort women (victims) for 30 years, but Japan still only lies, and Korea has to go out with Japan to solve it, but now I have come to appeal to the laws of our country,” she said.
He continued: “I believed that many times until now, we will solve it from country to nation.” “I’m desperate. It hurts a lot, ”Lee said in detail, recalling what he experienced at a Taiwanese comfort station. He said, ‘You are too young. I’ll cover it. ‘
Then he grabbed him by the head and dragged him into the room where the door was covered with a blanket, and kicked himself hard with his foot. Even though this grandmother asked for her life, she said, “I kill Jo Sen-jing,” and said that she tied her hands several times.
The grandmother said, “Even though I was praying that I was wrong, I rolled my hands again and I remember (I) called myself ‘mom’.” “The sound (still) comes from my head, but when I worry about it, I think about it more and feel stupid. I live on sedatives. “
He said that one day a boy came and said: “The war is over. “I have to go to the camp,” he said, he moved to the camp, and after a while he arrived in Busan by boat. This grandmother remembered the time around May 1946.
“I’m still curious why Japan did that, but I’m telling you clearly, but I was a Joseon girl.” She said: “I thought I would always believe that I would come to court and settle it as country against country. It wasn’t that, ”he yelled.
He harshly criticized the Park Geun-hye administration’s deal with the Japanese government on the comfort women issue in 2015, saying it was “nonsense.”
Lee said: “A person who is the Japanese security director who knows nothing, and the secretary Park Geun-hye and Lee Byeong-gi, and the office secretary Lee Byung-ki, said that it was an agreement with only eight jokes in the Blue House. “
“I got up to a billion yen there. Why did you take it again? “” I sent it back. He didn’t contact me. “This grandmother read the handwritten letter last time.
“We are direct victims. The judge and all of you are indirect victims too, “he said.” By the way, I started the lawsuit four years ago. What have they done so far? Can someone in law do that? ”He raised his voice.
He continued, “I was brought to Korea as my daughter (the only daughter of many children) when I was 14 years old. As the son of Joseon, I have become an old man in Korea. ”“ I believed in the judge, I believed in the law, and I waited. But why can’t I figure it out? “Why can’t you figure it out?”
He said, “I don’t have much left. “You have to appeal to the judge for you to be over 90 years old.” Take responsibility. I am not a woman of comfort, ”she said and stole the tears with a handkerchief.
The court decided to proceed with the sentence at 2 pm on January 13 of next year.
In December 2016, 20 comfort women victims, including the late grandmother Kwak, and the survivors of the victims filed a lawsuit against the Japanese government seeking compensation for damages in a Korean court. However, the Japanese government has refused to accept litigation documents on several occasions, such as the return of complaints sent by our court administration, and the trial has not been conducted properly.
Meanwhile, in March last year, our court publicly served the Japanese government with a claim for damages and a translated copy of the claim guide.
The Justice Memory Solidarity (Eui-yeon Jeong) for the resolution of the Japanese military system of sexual slavery said: “When the trial began in November last year, there were five survivors among the plaintiffs, but one person died this year, and currently there are four survivors “.
