Former Justice Minister Cho Kook, who was handed over to trial in the ‘Prosecutor Yoo Jae-soo’ case, appeared in court as a witness.

Former Minister Cho said that he was reported to have had a rescue campaign for Yoo Jae-soo when he was a high-ranking civilian in the Blue House, but said that he had never been asked directly.

Former Justice Minister Cho Guk appeared as a witness in the case of prosecutor Jae-soo Yoo’s suspicions.

In the previous trial of his wife, Professor Kyung-Shim Chung, he exercised his right to refuse to testify and rejected all testimony, but this time it was different.

At the trial, Cho stated that when the Blue House Special Inspection inspected the former deputy mayor of the policy director of the Financial Services Commission at the time, it was reported that former participatory government officials were conducting a “campaign of saving”.

However, he did not confirm who they were and explained that he did not elaborate on the case of the former deputy mayor of Yu, because the portion of the work in the main office of the civil administration was very small.

When the prosecution pointed out whether it was contradictory to order former civil administration secretary Baek Won-woo to find out the facts, saying it was a small task, Cho also raised his voice and asked why it was a contradiction.

At the time, the prosecution mentioned that Cho had been on the phone with Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Gyeong-soo at the time and asked if he had been asked to save his life.

In response, Cho refuted that he had never received a rescue request from former Deputy Mayor Yoo directly not only from Congressman Kim, but also from any passport personnel.

Former Minister Cho also argued that the suspicion that he unilaterally stopped the inspection was not true, and that it was impossible to continue the inspection due to the refusal of the former vice mayor at the time.

At the time, he discussed with secretaries Won-woo Baek and Hyung-cheol Park, explaining that the decision was made to deal politically with the former deputy mayor’s affairs and that instead of requesting an investigation, the finance committee, the affiliated institution, he intended to discipline himself.

Following former secretaries Baek Won-woo and Park Hyeong-cheol, the hearing of the ‘Muma Prosecutor’s Office’ case was almost over, as former Minister Cho finished the witness newspaper.

The corruption case in the children’s entrance examination combined with the Muma prosecution case has not even started a hearing, so the sentence of former Minister Cho Kuk is expected to pass a year.
