The subject announced on day 2 that, as a result of a survey of 2,845 housewives before Kim Jang-cheol, the response rate of forgoing kimchi and buying packaged kimchi instead was higher than the previous year. It was investigated that the number of kimchi purchases also increased due to the higher consumption of homemade rice by Corona 19.

Daesang conducted a survey about this year’s kimchi plan through the Jonggajip blog for 5 days from October 19 to 23, and 56.2% of respondents answered that they did not make kimchi this year. This is an increase of 1.3 percentage points (p) from 54.9% last year. Among them, 62.6% of those surveyed said: “We will substitute kimchi for packaged kimchi”, an increase of 4.6% p compared to 58% the previous year.

The subject analyzed that kimchi was cumbersome and difficult for all age groups through a survey, and the price of kimchi material increased significantly due to the unusually long rainy season and typhoons later this year as another reason for give up kimchi.

Housewives who gave up kimchi cited ‘Kimjang’s hard work’ and ‘great convenience’ as the top reasons for buying packaged kimchi. As in the previous year, the most preferred dose for housewives who are willing to buy packaged kimchi was the 3-5 kg medium dose product.

Six out of 10 respondents drew attention and said that the number of kimchi purchases increased from last year. This is interpreted as a major impact on the increased tendency to eat at home due to the prolonged Corona 19.

When asked if ‘the number of home cooked meals increased with Corona 19 than last year’, 66% of respondents answered ‘yes’. The most frequent kimchi buying cycle was ‘Once a month’ with 38%, followed by ‘Once every two months’ 23% and ‘Once every three months’ 15.4%.

On the other hand, in the question of ‘celebrities who want to play kimchi together’, actor Gong-dong ranked first, followed by Kim Soo-mi second, Jae-seok Yoo third, Na-rae Park in fourth place and Jong-won Baek in fifth place.
