When Gimpo Urban Railway hired a new employee, YTN interviews confirmed that the employee’s son moved into the company home and was hired as a pick for local residents.

The rail side said the employee voluntarily left the company and closed his eyes without taking any disciplinary action, but instead fired two union members who raised the issue.

This is the exclusive report from reporter Shin Joon-myeong.

Lee Jae-seon, president of the Gimpo Urban Railroad Union, was fired in late September.

Mr. Lee argues that when a new employee raised suspicions of illegal employment, the city’s rail sector fired two union members, including himself.

Mr. A, a new hire who raised the issue of unfair employment by the union, was hired in March last year through a special evaluation that can only be requested by residents of the Gimpo area.

The competition rate for general admission was 8: 1, but the special resident admission was unsuccessful, so all six applicants passed.

However, Mr. A has been traveling from Seoul for over a year, and the union, who was suspicious of this, demanded gratitude.

As a result of the audit, it was confirmed that Mr. A requested a special examination for residents moving into the residence of a Gimpo Urban Railway employee.

It was revealed that her father, B, deputy general manager, spearheaded the transfer.

The railroad side imposed a three-month disciplinary sentence on his father, Mr. B, but Mr. A quietly left the company without receiving any discipline.

Since Mr. A voluntarily announced his intention to resign, he does not need to be disciplined.

If a layoff due to illegal employment is detected, there are disadvantages such as a five-year restriction on employment in similar institutions, but A is treated as a voluntary resignation and reemployment is not restricted.

The union decided to report to the external audit agency as a “closed eyes ceremony”, ignoring the rule that the company cannot leave the company before the audit is complete.

The railroad then suddenly fired two union members, claiming there was a problem with the documents submitted upon joining the company in April 2018.

[이재선 /김포도시철도 노조위원장 : 채용 상의 문제가 없었고, 그래서 합격을 했는데 저희가 채용 비위 사실을 알리자마자 표적 수사가 들어와서 해고를 한 거죠.]

The railroad said it had only fired one employee whose investigation revealed the problem.

[김포도시철도(김포골드라인) 관계자 : 그건 그분들의 얘기고요…그 문제는 제가 뭐라고 말씀 못 드리고. 내부에서도 많은 진통이 있었는데.]

The Seoul Transportation Corporation, which has audit authority as the parent company of Gimpo Urban Railroad, announced that it will take the necessary action upon understanding the facts of unfair employment and the suspected retaliatory dismissal.
