Group infection continues in nursing homes and rehabilitation hospitals.

Visits are minimized, but once an infected employee enters the interior, it spreads to patients and other employees in no time, causing dozens of outbreaks.

Access control lines were placed throughout the building on the first floor of the basement and two floors above the ground.

Older people admitted to nursing homes are also transferred to hospitals one after another.

After the first confirmed case in the nursing home on the second floor of the building, 34 more people were infected and the entire building was under control.

There are only 7 nursing homes operating in the same building.

In early August, 18 residents and employees were confirmed at two other nursing homes in the building.

Inspections are underway for about 200 people, and there is concern about further spread, as not only nursing homes, but also saunas, children’s pools and restaurants are located in the isolated building.

On the 20th, the number of cumulative confirmed cases related to the Anyang World Day Care Center for the Elderly and Gunpo Namcheon Hospital, which began as a result of family-to-family spread, exceeded 30 in three days.

At the SRC Rehabilitation Hospital in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, 124 confirmed patients were released six days after the first confirmed case emerged on the 16th.

Due to the nature of nursing homes that serve elderly patients with limited mobility, it is not easy to maintain the distance between the patient and the caregiver.

Furthermore, in the case of patients with dementia, poor cognitive ability and misuse of masks are also pointed out as a factor that makes quarantine vulnerable.

In particular, it is noted that nursing facilities require more comprehensive measures to break the link of spread, as there are many underlying diseases of the elderly and there is a high risk of death in case of a group infection.
