Rep. Park Wan-ju “Ulsan, only car with 52 m ladder”
A major fire broke out in a 33-story residential-commercial building in Ulsan, and 91 residents were taken to the hospital, but it was discovered that the Ulsan fire department did not have a raised ladder used to extinguish high-rise fires.
On the 8th, Representative Park Wan-ju of the Democratic Party, a member of the Administrative Security Committee of the National Assembly, said on the 8th: “According to the state administration data received from the Fire Department, there are only 10 ladder trucks elevated 70m across the country that can extinguish fires up to the 23rd floor. It was discovered that there is no 70m elevated ladder car at headquarters. ”
The fire broke out in the Ulsan residential-commercial building at 11: 7 pm on the 8th, starting on the 12th floor and spreading the fire to the entire 33rd floor. As the fire grew with the strong wind, a helicopter to put out the fire, but the flames rose again around 6:15 a.m. on the 9th.
Fire Service Commissioner Jeong Moon-ho, who was dispatched to the field at 2 a.m. this day and took command, issued an order to mobilize special equipment, including cars with raised ladders, to eight cities, including Seoul, Busan, Daegu and Sejong, as the fires revived. As there were no ladder cars in the Ulsan area, an order was also issued to mobilize a ladder car to extinguish the fire.
Im-housing, chief of the Ulsan Fire Department, said the day that “the height of the fire escape was low, we had difficulties at first.” “The height of the apartment is 113 m, but in Ulsan, 52 m is the highest (ladder car), so we are supported by a 72 m ladder car in Busan, and we are working on it.”
According to Park’s office, there are 461 general ladder cars nationwide. However, it was found that there are only 10 70m elevated ladder cars in the country that can extinguish fires up to the 23rd floor. Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon each have two, and one in Busan, Daejeon, Sejong and Jeju. The Gyeonggi Fire Department plans to buy one in 2021, and the Chungnam Fire Department plans to buy one in 2023.
Currently, there are 4,692 high-rise buildings with more than 30 floors in the country, of which 3,885 are apartments. The remaining 690 were found to be complex buildings and 90 commercial facilities. There were 18 accommodation facilities and 5 factories were found to be high-rise buildings with 30 stories or more. As apartments and high-rise buildings increase, the need for high-rise ladders to extinguish fires increases, but depending on the budget situation secured by each city and provincial fire department, you are deciding whether to deploy a raised ladder.
Rep. Park said: “As the fire in the Ulsan residential-commercial building is estimated to have started on the 12th floor, it might have been possible to respond faster if the Ulsan Fire Headquarters had an elevated ladder.” We will thoroughly check for problems and strengthen the response to fires in high-rise buildings. ”
