While their mother was away from home, a warm hand continues to help a brother at Incheon Elementary School who suffered a fire and severe burns while trying to cook ramen in the kitchen.
The Haksan Nanum Foundation, which is accepting requests for donations designed to support Brother Lee, announced on the 19th that a donation of 30 million won from about 100 people had been raised over three days from 16-18. Donors ask to use it for their siblings and in some cases from as low as 10,000 won to as many as 10 million won. Some donors are reported to have expressed their intention to continue supporting Brother Lee in lieu of a one-time donation.
The foundation plans to use the donations collected to help the elementary school siblings in consultation with the ward office. A foundation official said: “Yesterday there were only 100 inquiries calls a day, and inquiries through e-mails are constantly increasing,” he said. “We plan to make sure that the donations are used exclusively for siblings in elementary school.”
Previously, the Incheon Fire Department also decided to support 5 million won, which was raised on behalf of the medical expenses of these critically ill brothers in a ‘miraculous donation of 119 won’. Incheon Fire Headquarters Director Kim Young-joong said: “We decided to assist the brothers who suffered an unfortunate adventure” and “I will try to provide support through ongoing case management.”
The Yonghyeon-dong Administrative Welfare Center and the Michuhol Fire Station, where the brothers reside, are also receiving calls asking how to help the brothers. An official from the Administrative Welfare Center said: “More and more people are asking for ways to help siblings over the phone.”
Elementary school student A (10) and younger brother B (8) were seriously injured by a fire on the second floor of a four-story villa in Yonghyeon 3-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon around 11:16 am on the 14th. Group A suffered third degree burns in 40% of the whole body, and Group B suffered first degree burns in 5% of the whole body and is being hospitalized in a burn hospital in Seoul . During the fire, the brothers drank a lot of toxic gases and damaged their organs, making it difficult for them to breathe and they are dependent on an oxygen respirator.
The fire department estimates that a brother, who has not yet regained consciousness, accidentally started a fire while trying to prepare meals at home without going to school due to the reproliferation of the crown.
Brother A’s mother, C (30), who was not at home at the time of the fire, is known to be caring for the children while visiting the hospital. The police previously sent Mr. C to the prosecution last month on charges of neglect and abuse of children (violation of the Child Welfare Act). Siblings in Group A and Mr. C are known to have been living on 1.6 million won on behalf of monthly supply and demand expenses, self-financed labor expenses, and housing expenses.
