Former court chief Lee Tae-jong, who was accused of leaking investigative secrets about the interior of the court to the court administration when Yang Seung-tae, the court chief, was acquitted in the first trial.
In the Nongdan court case, he was sentenced to innocence four times in a row and the prosecution said it would appeal immediately.
Reporter Kang Hee-kyung reports.
[기자]Former Seoul Western District Court Chief Lee Tae-jong was brought to trial on charges of leaking official secrets and obstructing the exercise of the right to abuse authority.
The main content is that in October-November 2016, investigation secrets obtained through copies of arrest warrants, etc., were reported to the judicial administration office on five occasions to prevent the prosecution from expanding the investigation of the personnel from the executive office of the court.
The former head of the court, Lee, has always pleaded not guilty, and the first court of first instance also pleaded not guilty and shook hands with the former head of the court, Lee.
The court said it was difficult to convict the former head of the court’s charges, although the report contained some of the official secrets about the leakage of secrets in the public service.
There was no intention to prevent further investigation, there was no order to collect confidential information, and it is difficult to say that they conspired with the town planning judge at the time the document was drafted and reported to the administration.
He explained that there are no crimes for abuse of authority since it was the legitimate job of the head of the court.
[이태종 / 前 서울서부지방법원장 : 올바른 판단을 해주신 재판부에 감사드립니다. 한 법관의 훼손된 명예가 조금이나마 회복될 수 있어서 정말 기쁩니다.]This is the fourth time in a row, starting with former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Yu Hae-yong, who was convicted in the Nongdan Court case.
As the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office invested most of the special department’s prosecutors in an investigation for nearly nine months, the prosecution was forced to exert more pressure to maintain the remaining trials, including former Supreme Court Chief Yang Seung-tae.
The prosecution said it would immediately appeal that it cannot accept the acquittal of former court chief Lee Tae-jong.
As the positions of guilty or innocent are sharply divided, fierce battles of jurisprudence are again expected.
