Defense Minister Chung Gyeong-du said, “I took a vacation (orally) if there was a valid reason,” in connection with the suspicion of a preferential vacation for the Justice Minister’s son Chu Mi-ae.
On the afternoon of the 15th, Minister Jung responded to the question from Representative Seong Il-jong (Seosan Tae-an, Chungnam Province), to the effect, “ Have you ever verbally taken a vacation as a commander in the field of diplomacy, unification and security?
Minister Chung said: “If there are unavoidable circumstances of an individual in the regulations or instructions, by phone (we can extend the holiday),” he said, “it is not uncommon to see cases like Seo’s.”
Specifically, Minister Chung explained, “The ROK military support group has had 35 cases of vacation extensions in the last 4 years and 5 cases where vacations have been extended more than twice.”

Representative Seong Il-jong said, “Chu’s son had to return on June 23, when the first sick leave ended, and recounted his personal circumstances, and then left again,” arguing that “it is clear that he requested leave for love at home without returning. “
Minister Jung replied, “When an individual received his love song, he would have gone through the approval process before then.” However, added Minister Chung, “there is no administrative process to prove this factual relationship,” he added. “Since the prosecution’s investigation is ongoing, it will be released soon.”
On this day, Representative Seong cited the case of the Ministry of National Defense response that “ it is not possible to extend sick leave without careful deliberation, ” and questioned whether it was preferential treatment for sick leave from Seo without going through painstaking deliberation.
Minister Chung said, “I know there are many cases that have been handled (sick leave) without having to deliberate on medical care,” and said he would send related data.
Minister Chung explained the relevant guidelines, saying: “We do not make such guidelines for specific individuals” and that “I did not take any unfair measures or instructions.”
