The man sitting in the defendant’s seat is Amugae Ahn, an exercise prescriber for the triathlon team at Gyeongju City Hall, who was accused of assaulting Choi Sook-hyun and sexually harassing players from the same team. Ahn, also known as the so-called “team medic”, has been singled out as the perpetrator who killed Choi.
On the afternoon of the 11th, Ahn’s first trial was held at the hearing of the sole judge of the Eighth Penalty at the Daegu District Court. The content of the charges revealed by the prosecution is as follows.
First, it’s part of the assault charges. Since the summer of 2017, Ahn has repeatedly beaten victims Lee Amugae and Kim Amugae, who are members of the same team, in the living room of the men’s quarters of the triathlon team in Gyeongju City Hall. Then, from this period until around August 2019, four victims were attacked one after another a total of 7 times.
Ahn is also charged with sexual harassment. From July 2013 to December 2019, six athletes were sexually abused in order to provide guidance on swimming or massage posture.
There is also the suspicion of fraud. Although they were not physicians, they acted as overseas physicians and performed medical treatment for 19 athletes from approximately February 6, 2013 to approximately December 18, 2019, receiving 2.772 million won as remittances for the treatment. Ahn was charged with accusations of stealing the aforementioned money while in a for-profit medical practice.
Ahn was arrested on the 13th of last month. In addition to the cases that have already been delivered to trial, the prosecution is also investigating Ahn. Ahn’s side addressed this and asked the court: “Please allow me to be tried along with this case.” The prosecution said: “It is still in the investigation stage and before the indictment, it is difficult to say definitively (related details),” he said.
