2020 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League will start on May 5 for Children’s Day. In the wake of Crown 19, it is expected to be a season with many variables, such as a long low season, unattended attendance, and tight schedule with no scheduled breaks like All-Stars and Olympics.
Ahead of the regular league opening on 1, Korea Gallup announced the results of a survey of 1,000 baseball players age 18 and older who are 18 years of age or older, and their preferences, expected teams, professional baseball interests, and favorite players. The sample error is ± 3.1% points (95% reliability).
According to this, the most popular team this year is KIA, which received 10% support. Samsung Lions and Lotte Giants (9%) followed by Doosan and Hanwha Eagles (8%). LG Twins 6%, SK Wyverns and NC Dinos 3%, Kiwoom Heroes 2%, KT Wiz 1%. Additionally, 41% of the floating class responded that there is no special baseball team.
In particular, the difference in club preferences is very small compared to the previous year. The difference between 1st KIA and 4th Doosan and Hanwha as a whole is only 2%. Last year, KIA had a 14% preference, about 4% ahead of the second group (Samsung Lotte). Samsung and Lotte, which have strong supporters, also recorded single-digit first preferences in the past, perhaps due to long-term underperformance effects.
KIA also ranked first with 16% of the preference for professional baseball players (412). Lotte remained second, but Samsung was fifth. Doosan was third and Hanwha was fourth.
Doosan received overwhelming 17% support in predicting the winning team. The gap with the second SK (5%) is outstanding. KIA and Samsung took third place and LG fifth. Doosan has a strong track record of winning three times and winning two races in the past five years despite the FA’s heavyweight departure.
Doosan is the third team to have won six professional races and has won professional baseball. It is still far from the 1st KIA (11th), but the 2nd Samsung (8th) has reached the chin. Samsung is in the position that director Shin Sam-young, director of the new command tower, should bounce back this season.
Professional baseball recorded 41% interest by age, plus ‘very interested’ and ‘somewhat interested’, an increase of 7% over last year. However, in the 1930s and older, growth has grown since last year, while in the 1920s, the decline has continued for several years. In particular, interest in women in their 20s fell to 14% this year.
KBO League viewers topped 8 million viewers for three consecutive years from 2016 to 2018, but fell to 7.8 million last year. This season, the aftermath of corona19 started out from the crowd.
As a favorite baseball player, Ryu Hyun-jin (Toronto Blue Jays) received overwhelming support of 22%. Second place is 13% Choo Shin-soo (Texas Rangers). Lee Dae-ho (Lotte) and Lee Jung-hu (Kimum) ranked third with 4%. Also, 60% of respondents said there are no players they like.
