Results of the labor force survey of the first semester of the Ministry of Employment
Hiring plan April ~ September 238,000 … -13,000 people
The result of the mismatch of the overlapping workforce in Corona 19
Until September, the number of companies that planned to hire for half a year decreased by 5.1% compared to the same period last year. Even the recruitment market in the second half of the year was affected by the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19).
On the 31st, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced the ‘Results of the Survey of the Active Population of Companies by Type of Occupation in the First Semester of 2020’, and the number of employees it plans to hire for the second, fourth, third and fourth quarters (April to September) was 238,000, compared to the same period of the previous year, 13,000. He said it was reduced. The number of hiring plans for the second, third, third and fourth quarters collapsed from 300,000 last year and fell again. The Ministry of Employment surveyed 32,000 companies with 5 or more permanent workers from May 6 to June 30.
While the economic uncertainty continues due to Corona 19, the stagnation of employment in the first half is affecting the second half. Since regular bonuses are generally concentrated in January-February in the first half and July-August in the second half, the number of people they plan to hire through September will determine hiring in the second half. In the first quarter, the number of hires was 793,000, a decrease of 3.9% over the same period last year, and the number of hires also decreased 1.9% to 734,000. It has been six years since 2014 that the number of recruits did not reach the 800,000 mark. An official from the Ministry of Labor explained: “It seems that the delay in the opening of schools due to the spread of Corona 19, school closings, decrease in tourists and social distancing had an effect.”
True, the number of hires has decreased due to Corona 19, but a structural ‘workforce mismatch’ also affected. In the case of large companies with more than 300 employees, 26.4% was the highest because “there is no applicant with the experience required by the company” as a reason for not hiring labor. On the other hand, in the case of SMEs with less than 300 employees, the highest value (21.3%) was “because the working conditions such as the salary level do not meet the expectations of job seekers.” The visual level of the job seeker in the recruitment market is not suitable for SMEs and the productivity is not consistent with the visual level of large companies.
Meanwhile, as of July, the total number of employees in companies with more than one employee was 1,8446,000, a decrease of 138,000 (0.7%) compared to the same month last year. The slide narrowed after hitting a low of 365,000 in April, but it is too early to predict a steady improvement in the job market as Corona 19 is spreading again after the Liberation Day rally.
